How long to port from Telus to Koodo?

I found a plan that I like on Koodo and telus didn't want to price match it so I decided to switch carriers.

My question is about porting time.

When I port a number how much downtime is there?

I rely heavy on my phone for business and need to get calls+texts from clients.

I heard somewhere that the calls might be ported instantly but I won't be able to get any texts from anyone who texts me from a Rogers, Bell, Fido number.

Thanks in advance

Koodo will not charge you a fee to port a number to its service. However, Telus may charge you a cancelation fee or prorated plan fee for the days you have used in your current billing cycle.

My contract expired about 2 years ago, so why would I have to pay a cancellation fee?

That is something to ask Telus. quasarito did not say that you WOULD have a fee. It was only stated you MIGHT. Call Telus to be sure.

It can be as fast as 15 minutes. I have ported a number from Public Mobile that went into effect when I got back to the car in the parking lot. Porting from one mobile carrier to another is very fast.

But you should be prepared for delays of up to 1 day to do so, but that is a rare situation.

To port a number from one mobile service provider to another can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2.5 hours unless there are issues with the process. Porting to Koodo would also have a text sent to you when the port is complete.

There is no service fee to port a number in your situation.

Porting from Telus to Koodo often takes less than 5 minutes to complete. Since they run on the same network, most of the computer systems involved in the routing of calls are the same, and there is no waiting for responses from other providers.
