How long does it take to transfer a cell number to Koodo?

We just activated our new phone around 6 pm and requested that we transfer our cell number from another provider to our new phone. When we got the message that it had been activated we tried making a call to our land line and it worked well. I was able to send some text messaged. But when I used my land line an hour later to try phoning my new cell it did not ring. When I tried a second time I noticed that incoming calls are still going to the old phone. Can anyone tell me when I will start receiving calls on my new phone?

Hi Darlene, welcome! It shouldn't take a few hours, so it should be soon :) If it's not ported correctly by tomorrow, you should contact Koodo, something might have not gone entirely right then... :)

Hello Darlene,

Typically it takes up to 1 hour to fully port in your number from another carrier. During the hour, you will not be able to get incoming calls and it will directly go to your voicemail. When the port in is 100% gone through, you will receive a text message from Koodo letting you know that your port in was successful. Thanks for joining Koodo and we hope you enjoy it here :D

three hours after I did the transfer calls were still coming in to the old phone. I was able to make calls from both phones. Now, four hours after trying to transfer my number I am getting a 'customer unavailable' message. Both my phones are turned on.

Outgoing as you can see works instantly but for in coming service you are awaiting your previous carrier to accept koodo's take over request, usually they tell you it takes up to 3 hours if you find tomorrow morning still not working give koodo a call to make sure they have the right account number they are porting for me they were off by one digit and then instantly everything worked.

hi when porting any cell number from diff provider to koodo it takes between 30 minutes up to 2 hours and half to complete the port .you receive sms from koodo confirming the port is completed at 100% for incoming and outgoing calls calls .sometimes you can not receive sms and you sould waite up to 24 hours .if you still not receiving them after this period you can call technical support .

Try turning off both phones. Remove the battery (if applicable) and SIM card from your Koodo phone for about a minute, put it back together, and then try testing phone calls again.

Sounds like the port was messed up somehow. I would call Koodo and ask them to confirm the port request was successful... make sure you give them your old provider's account # (sometimes serial # of old device doesn't work) and ask them if the switch has been cleared.

I cannot find any paperwork for the old provider... we had a basic talk only plan.

It would be best to call them first to get the info Jonathan suggested. After that, give Koodo a call about the port with that old provider's info ready.

The account with the old provider also needs to be ACTIVE in order for the port request to go through.

Thanks for the suggestion, good to know that everyone is thinking of all the possibilities. Yes, the account is active. We just got back from our local Koodo shop. The employee there said that it can sometimes take 24 hours. He said sometimes the old provider is slow in responding to the request.

That is true but not 24 hours. If it's a cellular to cellular port, it should take max 2.5 hours.

If you ported from a landline then it can take several business days.

So, you take your work home with you. It is really nice when a person loves their job enough to give it their very best. The rep we dealt with at the store is like that.... sure that she really loves her job... she goes the extra mile to try to help out.

Hello everyone,

What is the difference between "port" a number and "transfer" a number to Koodo?

Thanks.

It's the same really, Mohammad, just two ways of saying the same thing :)
