I have a voice and text plan, no data, I understood that I could text pictures. In order to do this my data setting must be turned on. What settings are required to prevent data usage charges on texting pictures?

You're not actually charged for the data used by the picture. You can be, however, for other stuff. Make sure no push notifications are set on any apps like FB, emails, etc. auto-sync is turned off, you have no internet-enabled clock, weather, sports scores, etc. widgets on your home screen, and so on. Generally speaking it's pretty annoying but an unfortunate side effect of using an HSPA network. Smartphones were designed for data.

If you have any smartphone except for Android, then try sending the pictures with data on only while connected to WiFi or find an alternative method of sending the picture through WiFi such as email, FB, WhatsApp, BBM, etc.

If you have an Android, then keep reading. You can edit the APNs so that data will only work for MMS and not other stuff. Navigate to Settings, More..., Mobile Networks, Access Point Names (this may vary depending on which OS you have). You should see a dot next to something called Koodo and then koodo.sp. What you'll do is hit menu and then "new APN".

Copy everything that you see here into the fields:

Name: Koodo MMS Only
Proxy server:
Port: 80

Port: 80
MCC : 302
MNC : 220
APN type: mms
