How do I tether over USB with a Blackberry?

My plan allows for tethering, and I use Wifi hotspot on my phone and it works really well, except at school. I was talking to one of my teachers and apparently the school wireless will "attack" rouge access points :S

So I want to do tethering over USB, but it's a lot more difficult than I remember. When I was on Bell all I had to do was configure Blackberry Desktop Software for bell HSPA and away I go.

That doesn't work for Koodo. the preset Koodo connection doesn't work, and with googling i tried sp.koodo.com as the APN and that doesn't wor either.

Help? thanks.

A plan doesn't "include" tethering. Tethering is just a use of mobile data, so it works off your data plan so any overages that you occur from tethering are legit.

That aside, Unless you have BB OS 7.1, you won't have access to set up a hotspot for tethering.

If your mobile data on your BB doesn't work, this could be another reason of why it's not working. You need the Blackberry version of your rate plan if it includes data or you need a Blackberry connect addon.

He didn't say anything about included tethering, he said his plan allows for tethering which I think he just meant that he can tether at no extra charge. some carriers charge extra to tether on top of the regular data rate.
Keep in mind that when tethering a laptop uses much more data then a mobile phone so keep an eye on your data usage.

USB tethering works for me via Desktop Manager with an unlocked 9900 running the latest Vodaphone DE firmware. Access point is BB.Koodo.com and user/pass fields are blank.

Odd, are you running the latest firmware on your phone with the latest version of desktop manager?

Yeah I'm running the latest version of BDS, And I'm running the latest Koodo official OS for my phone. I tried newer builds, but they all broke picture messaging.

Look for an app called tether. It creates a little mini server. Even works over bluetooth

Actually I don't need to. I just tried on a 32-bit Windows 7 machine and it works fine. The problem must be in Blackberry Desktop Software or Windows 8

I'm going to try re-installing BDS, just not right now. Right now I baked brownies and they finished cooling.

First I'd try and do right-click, and set it to run in 32 bit compatibility mode, and then to "always run as admin". Should force it to work if its good on a 32 bit...

Just for poops and smiles you're not trying to run bds on parallels or virtual box are you? If you don't know what I mean you're probably not.

Nope, Windows 8 is running directly on the hardware.

If the answer is yes you need to bind the usb port to The OS you're using virtually

I reinstalled BDS and it worked... Once.

Whatever it is, it's not a Koodo issue. I'll be asking at Blackberry forums
