If you download your old vm messages as wav files using your cellular data connection, then yes, it will count against your data usage. This only applies to downloading saved messages from the old system. Checking your vm on the new system works exactly the same way as the old one used to. No data required, although you will still use minutes to check it.

@ Tony the recommended method is via downloading via PC. If not, wi-fi to avoid chargeable data usage.

No. The only way that downloading wav files will be involved in any way is if you have old voicemail messages saved on the old system. If you wish to keep these messages they need to be converted to wav files and you need to download them before the old system is shut down entirely. As far as day to day use of voicemail ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IS CHANGING. You will still dial into voicemail and check your messages exactly the same way you do now.
