I'm going to Mexico for 2 weeks. Plan on using wifi, but in case I need my mobile data, how do I use it, what is the best way to go about this? I have an Android (if this makes any difference)

Koodo has a add on for travel to Mexico, but it only included 50 MB of data , 50 mintues of calls and 50 texts for
$40. You can log into your account and add it if necessary, or Text 30BUNDLE to 5242.

You would be better off to get your phone unlocked and get a prepaid data Telcel sim (OXXO stores sell them all over Mexico). You can get 1-3 gb of data for 30-40 bucks or buy a simcard online before you go preloaded and activated.

OK, great. I don't have time for that second option, but I'll probably do the first one. I wasn't sure if you could just get international data by itself? But looks like you need to do the whole bundle.

As long as youre not on prepaid you can just have pay per use data by adding the international voice and data roaming add ons. Be aware though that pay per use data will cost you muy mucho.

You may be better off taking a roaming bundle for that Just in case.

How do I know how much of this 50mb I've used? Do I have to monitor it myself??

You should, there's an app for Android called 3G Watchdog that does an excellent job of monitoring your data use. And of course you can always check self serve for your use as well.

So I'm in Mexico right now, I activated the $40 roaming package and my phone won't do anything! I enabled mobile data, turned off airplane mode... No internet!! I also tried to call a mexican phone number and my phone said emergency calls only.. No network! What gives?!!

Did you call in to enable the International Voice Roaming add-on on your plan? This is a free add-on that's disabled by default to prevent accidental roaming.

I went on self serve and added the add-on international roaming package.. Got this text right after. No where did it say I had to do anything else besides that to set it up..

Look for an international voice roaming add on... You may need to add that as well. It's free

This whole situation is sounding ridiculous. It should just work after I activated the add-on that's supposed to let me so this stuff!! Isn't there any koodo reps on here that can tell me what's going on?!

Have to agree it's nuts. We are circling the wagons and getting nowhere on this subject a few times a week. Too many people doing the texting thing and then getting overseas and finding out they have no service, so no way to contact Koodo other than thru wifi.

My checklist if you are going outside Canada and the US  --- applies only to postpaid accounts with a quadband phone that will support the additional 900/1800 3G used outside Canada and the US.

Prepaid will not do roaming at all.

1. Go into self-serve and add International Voice and/or Data roaming (at $0 per month).
2. Do the text thing for the roaming bundle on the day of your departure while you are still in Canada.

http://help.koodomobile.com/coverage-long-distance-and-travelling/travelling

Expand the Travelling outside the US link for instructions. Expect a text confirmation in return. If not, contact customer service while you still can.
3. When you do get to your foreign locale, re-start the phone to wake up the SIM.
4. Have an account with Fongo, Skype or similar so you can contact customer service over wifi if your phone will not connect.
