What do you mean "disable roaming"?
If you don't want to use your phone as a phone(make/receive calls, send/receive texts), you can turn on "Airplane mode" on or take your sim card out.

I want the option of roaming to be disabled on my account so that my phone can't even roam even if it tries to. This is to protect myself from getting a surprise bill at the end of a month. Other carriers send a text message notifying a customer if they are roaming but I don't know if koodo does that. I tried to look at my data usage costs online at koodo self serve site but it says :

Usage summaries are approximate and may not be accurate if you've used your device outside of the Koodo network or recently changed your billing date; please refer to your invoice for final charges.

So if it's not accurate to tell me of my roaming charges, how can I disable it at the account level completely?

Can koodo do data block under roaming conditions? That would be the best solution! Please let me know if they can.

Disabling data on the phone is not the solution for me because I don't know if I'm roaming or not within Canada (in areas where there is no koodo service). Also relying on a phone software to prevent roaming charges is risky.

According to the CRTC, all wireless carriers are supposed to do the following to protect consumers from roaming charges :
Cap on data roaming charges
A service provider must suspend national and international data roaming charges once they reach $100 within a single monthly billing cycle, unless the customer expressly consents to pay additional charges.
A service provider must provide this cap at no charge.

Does anyone know if koodo does this?

Koodo does that. They will send you a text message when you reach $100 in roaming charges and unless you reply that you want to continue it will be blocked. Alternately under your phone's setting there is data roaming that you can turn off as well or just select koodo manually as the carrier.

How can I select koodo manually as a carrier? Im using nexus 5. Are there any settings I need to have on self serve in order to enable this text notification?

Does your plan includes data? If so you should receive text notification at 75% and 90(95)% of your data limit.

It comes with data but that notification does not refer to roaming. Roaming does not come with any limit.

You can go to the cellular section of your settings, and set the network to Koodo, instead of automatic. There is a discussion here: http://community.koodomobile.com/kood...

I wasn't able to find the specific settings for nexus 5. I went into "Network Operators" and it says "Searching" but it never stops searching.
