My s4 is acting up and I would like to do a factory reset. How do I backup everything to my pc? I'm a computer idiot, so need very basic, precise instructions. Lol.
Also, after I reset, how do I restore the information to my phone ? Thanks

Do you have wifi in your home? If so that will make things alot easier as you don't even need the computer you can just back everything up to the cloud. *you can do these over your cellular data connection as well but it can take a fair bit of data depending what you have that needs to be backed up and downloaded again after the reset.*

Go to settings and under accounts select Google and then your Google email address that your signed in under. From there select each thing you want to back up and tap sync and wait for all the spinning wheels to disappear, there your backed up all the things listed and now when you sign in after the factory reset you choose to restore the backup from that date.

Now for photos you'll want to download Google Photos if you don't have it and register an account which is completely free and from there back up your photo with the click of a button over wifi. Once you see its done then you can do your factory reset and after just open the app and sign in and there's all your pictures in an easy to sort view.

If your still having issues figuring it out just search each on YouTube for visual instructions which I myself prefer when learning something new.

Hello Susan!

Were you able to back-up your data from your device to your PC thanks to Paul and Goran's suggestions? Thanks for letting us know :)

The information was very clear. However, windows 10does not recognize my phone. I guess I will have to work out that problem first. Thank you.

I'm using Windows 10 on a Surface 3, and my S6 phone is recognized without difficulty. It showed as a media device under the 'This PC' category with access only to music & video files until I added Samsung Smart Switch to my computer. At that point the entire file structure became visible.

Come back to this group with more info, and I'm sure someone will have a solution.

You can use Samsung's computer software if there's a lot of files to back up from the phone. You can download it here:

If it's just photos and a few documents though, you can use Dropbox or Google Drive. I am pretty sure most of them are saved in the cloud if Google account has been synced.

Use a data backup tool would be helpful.
You can use AirDroid to transfer data from your phone to pc, which allows wireless transfer. And you can also use the android file transfer tool.
Titanium backup is also a professioanl tool.
