How soon after receiving my phone do I need to activate?

I am new to Koodo and I'm looking to port out from my old provider. I have three weeks left on my current plan, which has been already paid for but my current provider would not refund the remaining balance on my account if I cancelled today.

I received my phone today. Is there a time frame by the end of which I need to activate my phone? Can I wait three weeks until my service with the current provider is finished?

Assuming it's a postpaid account the phone would be shipped already activated. There is no time limit on when you can port your number over but you would be paying for both plans in the meantime.
