Pre paid... responded to email verification link - successfully. So, how long before it will let me make a call? Says "emergency calls only" and has for the last hour.

Did all this with same type of phone, same package options and so on just last week and it took a couple of seconds.

Did you buy a talk booster?

Try restarting phone.

no, can't send text. Swapped in a good sim and the phone worked fine. put back the newly "activated" sim and it's back to emergency calls only.

You've done this before so if you have paid for the base plan and talk booster and sim activation went ok then I would say you have a faulty sim. The activation might not always be right away but if it doesnt work tomorrow then you'll know.

There are a few prepaid experts around here so maybe they can chime in.

Many thanks for the help, Mats. I expect a new sim will do the trick. Yes, been around IT and comms for more than 40 years. It seems that things just get more complicated and less reliable as the years go by.... If i was still working I'd have access to teams of experts...

@John: Was your phone compatible with Koodo?

oh yes, of course. Same as the one I activated a few days ago, bought from the same place in the same Koodo prepaid box

my plan exactly - seems likely their problem as it took over an hour for the email verification email to be sent - otherwise, new sim

I would wait if the SIM works tomorrow morning. Otherwise I would contact Koodo or the place you bought the SIM to check.

Weekends are probably not the ideal time for activations or other changes if you can avoid it. No staff around if there are hiccups. Those who are around may be concentrating on maintenance while traffic is low.

You don't really have any other choice than Dinh's option.

Oh! Are you sure, Bob? I spent years working for a telco - on the IT side - and (in my experience with them) there was no such thing as a weekend break in the comms business. I've done my share of overnight application support and development to fit in with local and international schedules. 24x7x52 was the norm, not the exception. Still, if that's Koodo's way of working... Nice thing about pre-paid is it's easy to swap service provider. Won't do that until they actually fail to connect me (hey, everyone has a bad day - or 3 - and sim chips do fail - let's be patient for a while) but if they make it too hard I'm gone... the phone's already unlocked and there are plenty of service providers.

Back-end systems problems - 1 system said it was activated, the other said it was not. <sigh> Still making the mistake of having the same, vital data in several systems... Seems my years as a data and systems architect were wasted.Never mind. A helpful gentleman in the call centre finally got me connected, so all's well that ends.
