You can connect both via USB.

If you have a wifi network at home, my favourite is DroidOverWiFI. No cable connection necessary. Your phone becomes a server, and any computer on the network can copy files back and forth to the phone through a standard browser connection.

This is also my favorite way.

Another way for the future is to install Carrosel on your phone. Carrosel backs up your pictures to the cloud whenever you have a wifi connection.

All of your pictures are then always available no matter what device you're on.

And a big plus, if you find you're running out of room on your phone, Carrosel can automatically delete only the photos you've already backed up from your phone. But still they are always available on the cloud.

Best and easiest way is to install Google Photos on your phone and have it set to automatically back up photos from your phone to the cloud every time you connect to your home wifi network, you can even set it to only do it while it's connected to wifi charging. Then just log into your Google Photos account on your computer and there's all your pictures. Best of all its free unlimited storage so you'll never run out of storage space and be forced to buy extra storage.
The other way is to simply use an SD card in your phone and then take it out and put it into your computer and transfer them from there.
I prefer the Google Photos method because you don't even have to think about it and don't risk your SD card becoming corrupt and losing photos.
