When you activate you have the option to choose a new number or port a number in

Thanks Dennis. Are there clear instructions to do so? If I have a problem can I call or will they charge me to help?

They won't charge you but I'm sure the instructions are quite clear.

So I'm going to order tomorrow. Do I need to be in touch with Bell or what happens? Will we be without phone services in between? I'm so confused but want to do it correctly.

Do not get in touch with Bell. Koodo will handle the number port. You will get a final bill from bell and you just pay that and you're good.

I would suggest: Get the Koodo set-up with a temporary number. You can then test suitability, signal strength etc without compromising your current number during the free-return period.

ONLY If things are good should you then port in the number.

If you have to return the home phone base for any valid reason, it's much less complicated to cancel a temporary number and leave you original service untouched than to re-instate your cancelled account with that same number.
