how do I avoid data roaming charges when travelling?

I am travelling from Canada to the United Arab Emirates and then to India.  If I turn off data roaming and put the phone into airplane mode, can I use the camera and wifi without extra charges?  Or do I also need to remove the sim card?

Hi Brenda,

For sure you can just use airplane mode and turn on wifi without worries about roaming charges, but for peace of mind against accidentally using your phone (or if it gets stolen or lost), I recommend you also remove your sim card. Just make sure to put it somewhere that it won't get lost.

Enjoy your trip and take lots of photos!
