I recently bought this phone as a back-up while my regular phone is gone for repair (cracked screen ) I'm running into continual issues trying to add my Hotmail account to the pre-loaded GMail app... I cant seem to find accurate information about setting up a Hotmail account on a Moto G 3rd Gen...I continually see a message indicating a "failure to connect to server"..I've looked around for a solution and I've tried a couple that I found on-line however none seem to work.Is there anyone out there that can please walk me through the procedure. Please! Thanks!

I have never been lucky with Gmail apps. It seems that Gmail does not want anybody else to invade their turf. A third party app, there are many available and free, would solve your problem.

If this still works, you could try manually entering your Hotmail credentials by going to: Settings > Accounts > Add account - select Personal POP3 and follow the instructions.

Hotmail Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - pop3.live.com (logon using Secure Password Authentification - SPA, mail server port: 995)

Hotmail Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - smtp.live.com (TLS enabled, port 587)

I think Microsoft is in the process of phasing out Hotmail and Windows Live and suggesting to customers to use Outlook Mail instead. If you see Outlook as an option under Settings > Accounts, enter your Hotmail credentials there. If the Outlook icon is not visible, tap the '+' Add Account icon and look for the Outlook icon and select it. If it's not on your device already, you may have to download Microsoft Outlook from the Play Store.

Thank you ....nope...wasn't successful...this Moto G is a back up...there's no way it'll become a primary...so for text and telephone it'll do...
Tried IMPA set up and no go...ditched GMail and trying Outlook and at least I can sync my hotmail but cant set up my primary...
I'm shopping@! Seems my damaged primary is questionable whether or not it can be repaired...I wont spend the money on a three year old phone...
Appreciate your input folks! :o)

If Outlook is set up, open the app and tap the 'gear' icon that appears in your Inbox in the upper right hand corner of your phones' screen. Look under the heading 'Accounts', you should see your @hotmail.com address. Below that, tap 'Add Account' and then tap 'Add an email account'. This will allow you to enter the credentials for your Gmail account.

When the Gmail account set up completes, tap the 'back' arrow to go back to the Settings window. You should see your Hotmail and Gmail addresses displayed under Accounts. Scroll down to and tap 'Default'. Here you have the option of selecting your default/primary email address.

You can also do this from within the Gmail app too. Open the Gmail app, tap the three horizontal lines in the upper left hand corner, scroll down and select Settings. tap 'Add Account' > tap 'Outlook, Hotmail and Live'. Sign in to your Microsoft account and follow the prompts. When complete, you should see your Gmail and Hotmail email addresses displayed.

You can toggle between the two email accounts or select one address as your primary, by tapping the three horizontal bars and selecting which email address you wish to view.

I don't think it's your phone that's broken. I just completed both methods Outlook and Gmail/Gmail and Outlook (deleted/added my hotmail and gmail accounts) on a Moto X Play and it went through without issue. I realize the Moto G 3rd Gen is not your daily driver, but it may be worth another shot until your other phone returns from repair.

Thanks....Long story short....I loaded and am using "Bluemail" although I'm not particularly fond of their permissions required...appreciate your input though!
