I'm currently tied up in a contract at Bell (WORST phone company ever). It's gonna seriously cost me to get out of it... some mobile companies offer credits or will buy out your contracts for you if you sign with them? Do you guys do that?

Hi Taylor,

You're very welcome to sign up with Koodo, but I'm afraid they won't help you get out of your contract :)

Taylor, can you give some more details about your Bell contract?
When did you sign it? Did you ask them about the cancellation fee?
What phone did you get with your contract (this is just my own personal curiosity)?

If you signed up prior to Dec.2, 2013, then you have to wait until June 3 2015 to become eligible under the wireless code of conduct

"The Wireless Code establishes new standards that all wireless service providers must follow. The Wireless Code applies to all new contracts signed as of December 2, 2013. It also applies to existing contracts that are renewed or extended, or where the key terms are amended, as of December 2, 2013. In addition, the code will apply to all wireless contracts as of June 3, 2015, regardless of when they were signed."

So it depends on which phone you got with your activation. The more expensive phone you get when you activate, the more it will be to leave them. It will also be less expensive if you are closer to the end of the contract.

Unfortunately, you will have to settle with Bell in order to part from them. Make sure you do not cancel with them before going to a Koodo store. Just bring your account number from Bell to the store and they will port your phone number first, thus cancelling Bell and keeping your phone number.

If you cancel first, it will terminate Bell and you will not be able to port your number.

Good luck Taylor!

If you're looking to get a new phone with Koodo, I would look at retailers like Future Shop/Best Buy, The Mobile Shop, etc. They usually have gift cards on new phone activations. They could help you eat the cost of buying out of Bell.
