Have you encountered problems with Android phone after upgrading to Kit Kat?

Today I upgraded my Moto G to Kit Kat and now the phone app is stuck in dialing mode whenever I initiate a phone call. The only way to stop it is to power down the phone and restart.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Did you receive the update OTA on the phone or did you update using your computer?

This is the second report of what appears to be a corrupt installation of KitKat. Earlier someone posted that they had received the upgrade, but were having problems with the installation. Turns out, that less than half the OS upgrade was sent to their device (196.9 MB) when the actual size of the KitKat upgrade is roughly 400 MB. Are you located in BC?

The KitKat OS upgrade has not been officially released in Canada, at least not in Ontario yet, so it will be difficult to replicate the dialer problem. I did stumble across a possible fix, but it requires root access and an unlocked bootloader. See link below.

It's very odd that you even received an update for the G over the air as I've never heard of updates being localized to a certain area of a country, it's always the entire country and none of us MM's have received the update on our Moto G's even those who live in BC.

The upgrade was promoted by Motorola as a benefit for Moto G owners and that it would be available in January. So I said to go ahead and upgrade when the notification appeared.

Is it a koodo device or an unlocked one direct from Motorola?

Koodo Moto G just started receiving the 4.4 update today so I'm still not understanding how you "received" the OTA to your device before today.

We have two Moto G's in our house. Both were updated today and both are having the same dialer issues. Can't hang up on calls. The only option is to power off the phone.

Both phones are completely unusable for making or receiving calling.

A OK, for me. I live in Ontario. Received update notice. Charged my battery to 100%. Did the down load. New Version: 173.44.9.end.CA
Download size: 196.9MB. After download the battery was at 41%
No dialer issues, except, it sucks
Camera pictures WAY BETTER. Instead of 6 out of 10 grainy pics. Now 2 out of 10 are grainy.
I feel bad for your upgrade issues BUT if it makes you feel better, someone drove into the side of my truck in a parking lot AND NOW I get to deal with Insurance companies....
Now does the Warentee Cover the phone being send back Motorola, for a software repair???

"No dialer issues except it sucks" what do you mean by that Moto G?

I updated my Moto G today and there's no issues what so ever which I can't say about the phone before the update as it had various hiccups like the battery battery stats were not resetting at one point and it not switching from data to wifi or back every time automatically like it should. So far with Android 4.4 though everything seems to be working flawlessly.

I did notice when the phone updated at first boot that the dialing app wasn't installed right away till about 15 - 30 seconds after the reboot was finished directly after upgrading but as soon as it appeared I tried it and it worked fine.

If you updated before today then check and see if there's another update as you shouldn't have received the update until yesterday the 14th of Jan which is when the update was officially released for koodo Moto G.

What I meant was, there is no issues with dial, I just don't like the "new" dialer.
BEFORE the upgrade, I noticed that the usage date was wrong and it would not allow me to change the date OR the format.
No everything is great on my Moto G.
No issues what so ever.

Us too!!! We just upgraded to Kitkat and it messed up our phones. We can't hang up when we make a call, automatically set to conference call, it blinks on/off.... We did a factory reset but this didn't help. The phone is only two weeks old, so I know this is not a phone issue, this happened right after we upgraded to Kitkat. We have two Moto-G that now have same problem. Anyone can help?

My Moto G upgrade is good. But 2 two years ago I did the Galaxy S2x upgrade and the phone locked up to point that battery had to come out to turn it off.

I was within the warranty period and Koodo gave me a loaner and sent it out. They said it would take up to 2 weeks - I got the phone back 3days later, no charge and still works perfectly fine.

I don't have any issues with the dialer on my Moto G. I just made a test call and the screen popped up like normal when I took it away from my face to end the call. I suggest you guys contact Motorola to see if they have a fix for your issue.

We did contact Motorola and went through all different options to reset and etc... but no solution. They suggested to send the phones for evaluation and also told us there will be $25/each charge...

That's Motorola, off the street price. Take the phone to Koodo , Koodo sends phone out, you get phone back, no charge; which is what Koodo did for the Samsung Galaxy S2X's after an "update that froze" the S2x.

This is a SOFTWARE ISSUE!!! A software issue that Motorola does not have a fix, to repair. WITHIN 1st YEAR OF PURCHASE.

Here's a thread at the Motorola forums discussing the same issue. No fixes yet.

Since this issue has not made news headlines it would appear to be an issue, similar to the Nexus S and Galaxy S2x Up Grade experiences.

Yes, it requires rooting your phone and a few other steps. Rooting voids your warranty but once you're done your downgrade, you can unroot your phone. There are many tutorials (YouTube is a good place) on how to do this but as always, use caution because it is possible to brick your phone.

Same problem here, found a way to roll back OS on xda-developers forum but I'll have to unlock the bootloader and that breaks the warranty, waiting an a solution cause now my phone is useless for phone calls, I'll probably take it to Koodo this aft.

It is possible, but it's time consuming. I did revert back to 4.3 and then back to 4.4 to prove it could be done. (while unlocking the bootloader voids the warranty, the bootloader can be re-locked using this command: fastboot oem lock). If you're fluent with adb and the command line interface, it shouldn't be a problem.

The stock 4.3 firmware you'll need is the very last entry at the bottom of the page and is labelled; Android 4.3 Blur_Version.14.81.1.falcon_umts.Telus.en.CA I couldn't get RSDLite to flash the firmware, because the Moto G wouldn't switch into fastboot mode by itself. So I had to do it manually via ADB using the mfastboot command.

Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showt...

My Moto G is now rooted, running Android OS 4.4.2 along with CWM-based recovery 6.0.4.6, Xposed Framework and GravityBox without issue.

Just wanted to say that I am having the same issue with my new Moto G. I bought it on Sunday and made between 25-30 calls without any problems. Since installing the update yesterday I have had the Dialer/Conference call issue, requiring the phone to be turned off and rebooted after calls.

I hope they can figure this out soon.
