Last week I had my iPhone 6 replaced under warranty by Apple. Upon activating the new phone group SMS chats are no longer possible and the 'group messaging' option is no longer available.

After speaking with Apple I was told this is a carrier issue. After speaking with Koodo they had no idea.

Is this a feature that Koodo doesn't offer? If so, why have I had access to it for the last 3 years (and multiple iPhones?) If not, how can I go about activating it?

Many thanks for any help.

Do you have 'Messages' turned on in settings on your new phone?

Yes. Individual and group iMessages and individual text/sms messages work fine. Group text/sms messages go through and are received as individual messages, not as part of a group chat.

And the 'group message' toggled option under Settings>Messages is no longer present. It's just not there.

On my phone, the Group Messaging option only appears when I have MMS Messaging turned on as shown in the image you linked below.

Groupe SMS sent as a groupe are only possible if all the persons in the groups have an iPhone. There's no such thing for normal SMS (green). It's an apple related feature only and it should work on iOS 9.3.3

So what steps should I take to enable/fix this? :)

Timo, are you able to utilize threaded group messages?

Yes, under MMS message settings. Nobody I text on a regular basis has a data plan though, so there is little point. They won't get the messages anyway. Facebook messenger is far more convenient some it works over wifi. I'm on an s7 edge though, not an iPhone.

Actual group messaging is only possible with MMS. SMS messages lack the required protocols to specify multiple recipients so they will go through as individual messages to each person. This is not a recent change, it's the way the system was designed from the beginning. Perhaps you only recently turned off the MMS function?

I apologize if I have been using the incorrect terminology. Semantics can be quite important with discussions like these.

Would my question be more accurately phrased as: does Koodo support threaded text conversations between iPhone and non-iPhone users?

It seems like they do not and that my having such a function was an abberation.

They do, but only if you are using MMS. This is the same for all carriers everywhere, as the SMS protocol does not support this feature.

Do you have a "group message" option in the second toggle field under settings>general on your iPhone?

You are missing it as well. It is that setting that enables non-iPhone group threads.

I have the same issue with my iphone se. MMS is enabled but no group messaging option appears. This causes group texts to be sent out as individual texts, and responses to not come back as a group but individually.

I would like to follow up with this. I know from searching other forums that Koodo has said "group messaging will not work on Koodo, only through the iphone if all members of the group have imessage.

However I'm sure a lot of us would really appreciate it if Koodo could work to unlock this feature. I know my friend is with telus and group messaging works properly for him on his iphone.

Also please see this recent thread from fido http://forums.fido.ca/t5/forums/v3_1/...

They had the exact same issue and were able to resolve it. So again we would really appreciate it if you could at least look into it. Thanks.

Group MMS does work on Koodo.  I've got a galaxy s5 on Koodo and tested this out with an MTS galaxy s5, a Telus iphone 5se, and a Rogers iphone 6.  On android, need to go into "advanced settings" and select the setting for "group mms" rather than "mass text."  And on the iPhone, need to have the "group messaging" setting turned on.  Not sure why the setting is disabled on koodo iPhones but koodo Androids can do group MMS just fine.

Maria, this your third post about this. The op has an iphone with koodo which is not something you have tested out. I appreciate how excited you are to share this information but there is no need to revive multiple old threads with information that only half pertains to the op.

Well I'm trying to help out through multiple threads since the original poster of this thread may not see the other posts.  It would be great if koodo could somehow combine threads of similar topics.

You're right, I didn't test with a koodo iPhone, but did with a Telus iPhone, and as well all know, koodo is a Telus brand.  Similarly group mms works on koodo Androids.  While this information only half pertains, it helps the thread understand where the issue may lie.  Koodo is not the issue, it is Apple.

That is untrue. My iPhones are factory unlocked and group MMS works when other carrier sim cards (including Telus) are used. The feature is removed when Koodo sim cards are put in the phone. I have taken this up with Apple and MMS group messaging is a feature that is either activated or deactivated by the carrier.

J, how do you explain group mms working on a kgalaxy s5 using a koodo sim?

I couldn't care less about non-iPhone features as this thread is only about iPhones. Any information you have regarding non-iPhones does not pertain to this thread.

The title of this thread is "Group Messaging/SMS Group Chat."  Sounds like this information does pertain to this thread.

I'm not trying to attack you or discredit any of your claims.  I appreciate your comments, and I do think all this information is relevant to the thread.  I just want this solved so that I can happily have a group message with anyone, using any phone on any carrier.

All i was saying with my last post was that, group mms is not deactivated by koodo since a galaxy s5 using koodo sim is working.

It is deactivated on the iPhone by Koodo. That is a fact. The iPhone and Galaxy are different phones with different features.

You said earlier that you have never tried group MMS with a Koodo iPhone. I have. It doesn't work. With a Telus sim, that same phone has group MMS function.

The best way I found to get this functionality was to switch to Telus. I did that with my phone and my kids still have Koodo and no group MMS.

iPhone Group message Does Not work on Koodo. Just switched from Bell, it doesn't work there either. Apparently it also doesn't work on Fido and Telus, depending on area user lives in. It is a frustrating issue that no one seems to have a solution for. Most of the employees I've spoken to from Bell and Koodo aren't even aware of the issue. The rest try to recommend a third party app. I am the only one in my group chats with this issue. That isn't fair to the others.

Are you talking to front line reps? If so, you won't get anywhere obviously because this is not a small issue just with your phone. Try escalating to someone who has a say in things like this. I don't know if Koodo has a way to escalate issues other than talking to some manager at the call centre.
