My plan includes the basics which gives me 200 anytime mins plus unlimited texting and 50mg of data. This past bill shows an extra charge for using more data. Since I am not using all my mins. and am always connected to wifi if I am using the internet could you please tell me what I did that would have incurred the extra charge?

If you leave data turned on, even if you're not touching the phone, some apps and widgets will update automatically in the background. Smartphones these days are designed to use much more than 50mb of data so it's very easy to go over accidentally. WiFi helps, of course, but if the signal isn't strong enough or you leave a WiFi zone, then it will automatically switch over to data if it's turned on.

You might want to consider changing your plan to get something with more data or just getting rid of it altogether as 50mb is very small. It's realistically only a "oops I turned it on" sort of thing and then you immediately shut it off.

Also if you don't use your minutes that much, switch to the prepaid plan is another option.
