Google Assistant on Pixel XL

I recently bought a Pixel XL (6 days ago) and I have not been able to get Google Assistant to answer me when I say "Hey Google".  I have retrained my voice several times, rebooted, as well as a factory reset and it still will not work.  I looked around online, and found there are several issues with Pixel - WiFi, camera-blurring and the microphone.  I haven't run into any issues when I make phone calls yet (I have only made a few however) so I am inclined to think its a software issue and not a hardware issue.

Has anyone else ran into this issue?  I am seriously considering returning the Pixel and getting a S7.   I came from a Note 4 which I really loved and would have stayed with that line but then the whole Note 7 thing happened and decided to go with the Pixel.  I am a little under-whelmed by the Pixel actually, but that is another story...

Look forward to others' experiences in regard to Google Assistant.  I think it is something I would use quite a bit, if it only worked!

just curious, how much did it cost you for that phone?

It was $1,054 - pretty pricey - I expected a few more "bells and whistles".

If you want bells and whistles you want the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge, the Pixel phones are as basic as Android gets and while great in their own way they're just way overpriced.

The only thing stopping me from getting me from getting the Pixel, S7, or S7 Edge (along with a few other phones) is the lack of a removable battery.  Otherwise I'd already have an S7

I am going to return the Pixel for the S7 Edge, in spite of the non-removable battery (Ughh) - I never was able to get the Google assistant to work and there seems to be too many bugs in this Pixel.  It may be better to wait a year or two to purchase one.

@ Paul, aren't the bells and whistles added by Touckwiz, or similar, just the opposite of the pure Android experience most Pixel/ Nexus owners are looking for?

Wow, none of the stores in my area (OSL/Walmart Wireless or The Mobile Shop) carry the phone, so I had no idea how much it was.  Thanks.
