I’m leaving the Philippines Dec. 10 to Jan. 11. I have an iPhone and would like to stay on the internet. The place i’m going to will occasionally have wifi but is it possible to still use my data there? I would like to keep my plan and have it when I come back. What do I do? Also I don’t need to call or text there. I don’t mind using imessage to text my friends or facetime to call them.

Check out Koodo's Easy Roam plan: https://www.koodomobile.com/easyroam

It would cost you $10/day plus the regular usage that is part of your plan.... this might add up rather too quickly if you use your phone every day though.

It's probably much cheaper to take out the SIM card for one month and buy a local SIM in the Philippines... when you come back, you can swap SIM cards again and use your Koodo plan again.

In that case get a local prepaid sim for data.

It's really cheap. You can keep your number and resume using it when you get back. You could even use a VoIP App like Fongo or skype or anything else to call back to Canada if you need / want and it would just use up data.

Just make sure your iphone is unlocked before you leave.  This includes trying a sim from another carrier in canada (not telus) before leaving to avoid any complications once you are out of the country
