I am confused with everything that I have read. I am going to Mexico for one week. The resort has free Wifi. Will I need to add roaming or anything else or am I covered because Wifi is free? Help!

With WiFi you will have data and phone (if you do not have it on your cell/laptop, download Skype, Whatsup, Messenger, etc). You are set up.

WiFi is for internet, not cell network usage, so if you still want to use any minutes, texting, or data in your plan while in Mexico, you'll have to add a roaming package or try the pay-per-use rates, which can be very expensive. However, there are a lot of ways around using the cell networks and just using WiFi while on your trip to communicate. Skype, Viber, Facebook, WhatsApp, BBM, etc.

You can also unlock your phone (if it isn't already) and use a local provider's SIM while you're down there.

Best to consider it a holiday from everything, including cell interruptions. Roaming outside of well defined urban areas can be iffy, to say the lea$t, and your free wifi at the resort may end up being one computer terminal being shared by a multitude of guests.

Hi Lola!

If you only want to use Wi-fi while in Mexico and do not want to use any roaming services (voice, data and/or text), I suggest that you put your device on Airplane Mode. Your Wi-fi will still work and you'll be worry free :)

Have a great trip!
