I want to buy a koodo phone and plan for a friend as a gift and i wanted to do it in store. How would i go about doing that without their drivers licence and credit card? Monthly billing will go to them but I will be paying the upfront fees with I go into the store for the phone.

Are you currently with Koodo?

If so you can buy the phone for them . Then have then sign up and select their plan when you give it to them

I don't think you could walk away with a non-activated phone on a monthly plan. But, what the OP could do is buy a prepaid phone pack and a postpaid SIM. Activate upon receiving it, use up the $20 that it comes with then simply switch (at store) to monthly plans if approved on credit. Buying prepaid for said friend is better especially if you don't know their circumstances re their credit and whether they would be eligible or not.

If OP has a Koodo account, then they can "upgrade their phone" with the Gift Phone. Since it is just swapping a sim card there is no need for activation since you are an existing customer and are already activated

Hmmmm...wouldn't upgrade involve changing the phone info on the OP's account? The store would have to do that, I don't think they just give you the box and let you walk.

it wont matter what is on OP's account since you can swap sims on self serve or even place the same sim in different phones. It doesnt really matter.

I've done it where they have given me the box and walked away.
I am also OCD and anal about my electronics. I dont like having others touch my phone, or let anyone else peel off the plastic film. I also tell the rep that I need to open the phone in a controlled environment when I am good and ready and on a layer of blankets and pillows.

I paid for the phone, I have an account in good standing, the phone is locked to Koodo. I should be able to open it when I am comfortable :p

By this time I have exhausted the rep LOL
