Getting iphone 4 to work on Koodo network

Hello,
I am at the end of my wits to get my phone work with Koodo. I arrived to Canada few days ago with my iPhone 4 from Czech Republic. I bought a koodo prepaid sim, put it in my phone but all I get is no service message. I tried everything I could find or think of. I checked that 3g is enabled, it was. Then I restarted and reset the phone to factory settings, then I updated to iOS 7 through itunes and then again i reset the network settings just for the kicks. I checked the IMEI on this page http://iphoneimei.info/, it says the phone is unlocked and last activated sim is Telus Canada. When I try to select carrier manually, there is only one option, it used to be rogers but now it just says 302720 which I believe is code for Rogers. The original O2 sim has no trouble connecting to Rogers network when I put it back in again. Do you know what could be the source of my troubles? Or how to fix this issue?

Maybe you should call tech support and ask them to maybe help you set it up if needed they will tell you.

I was trying to avoid that as calling them from my European sim might cost me more than buying new Rogers sim and forgetting the whole thing... But I guess it is unavoidable :-)

Call from a local phone. 1-800 numbers are free. You probably want to do that anyways so can change the setting if that's what they tell you.

Ok, I will give it a try when I find someone who I could borrow their phone from.

Have you tried updating the carrier settings?

Rogers doesn't offer double promo as Koodo is much better not that my opinion would matter, but it is your choice so hope you get it resolved soon

Well I bought a koodo card for a reason, but It is not yet working for me in which case even any promo looks that much less enticing...

Ok, so no "update carrier options" ever appeared on itunes. However, I restored the iphone again and set it up as new one to finaly see Koodo as a carrier in manual carrier selection. But when I select it, the phone says "Restricted Network, Your selected mobile network is restricted.". I really dont know what that means, however, this post https://discussions.apple.com/thread/... on apple suport points to defective sim or something wrong with the plan. Could that be?

If everything checks out and you still cannot get your iphone to connect to Koodo then Koodo's network is not accepting your iphone. Unfortunately, there isn't anything Koodo can do to force their network to accept your phonr.

That doesn't make sense since the OP checked the IMEI for compatibility on the koodo site.

The IMEI compatibility tool isn't exact. For instance, my Koodo Mobile Nexus S will read that it's not compatible with Koodo's network.

That's why the only true way to know is to try an active Koodo sim card. If it get's service for 5 minutes or more, than the system will accept it. If it doesn't get service or gets booted off quickly, then the system is not accepting it.

Thank you for these not so optimistic news.. I will try calling the tech support and see what they have to say..

On a different topic: anyone interested in buying an unused $20 prepaid koodo sim? :-)

Try another Koodo sim in your iPhone or another phone to test that sim.
If it is indeed a defective sim you can just get another one at Koodo
