i recently went overseas, and to get my phone working with a sim over there i had to delete the apn configuration profile that my phone (iphone 3gs) apparently needs to work over here on koodo. i've tried using both unlockit.co.nz and m.apnchanger.org to retrieve a working apn profile, but to no avail... even after resetting the network settings, switching on and off etc I am still without a working phone. any ideas?

Are you able to manually chage the APN?

If not, resetting the network settings should work.

You next option is to do a full restore via itunes.
And lastly, if that doesnt work, visit the Apple store

Thanks for replying - but I'm not able to change the APN manually, and resetting the network settings doesn't work.

Pluggin in your sim should do the trick.

If that doesnt work, then reset your network settings and reboot the phone.
Then Unlockit.co.nz is a great APN changer.

If that doesnt work, You next option is to do a full restore via itunes and see if that does anything.
And lastly, if that doesnt work, visit the Apple store.

Yes, a whole restore seems a little brutal, but it looks like the other options are not working.

Another option is to jailbreak the phone and get the TetherMe jailbreak app.  But thats even more brutal.

You may want to call Koodo tech support to see if they can do anything on their end before a restore.

after repeating several times that neither reset network settings nor unlockit.co.nz work, you're suggesting it to me again. seriously, why bother?

You know I dont work for Koodo.  I am just a guy trying to help you on a public forum.  I gave you options.  You said it was brutal.

I cant just make new options for you just because you dont like the answer.

What do you want me to do or say?

I appreciate you trying. Some feedback on your help though: repeating options that I've already mentioned didn't help, it just made me more frustrated and angry.

As mentioned below, a complete reset of the phone worked (though restoring the backup re-instated the problem, so this had to wipe the phone clean). Brutal. Cleaned my phone up though...

You were on the right track.
The options I repeated that you tried was what I would have tried too.

Its just my thought process.  I didnt want to leave anything out.

But as options fail you escalate the fix to more drastic things.
You thought it was brutal, but there were no options left but the brutal ones at that point.

Hey grasshopper,

Unfortunately for you with and iPhone the only way to change an APN setting is to restore the phone with iTunes. Call a rep at *611 and you'll get the same answer, so instead of wasting your time there just to get him to tell you to do a restore in iTunes, you might as well just do that.

Thanks Mathieu, this is what I ended up doing. It was brutal, but it worked. Hoping I won't have to do this every time I go overseas though!

Your welcome, except Denis is the one to told you to do this first and gave a lot more info and options and you just brushed himoff. Maybe you should thank him as well....
