Hi. i just newly bought this Samsung Galaxy S2 like 2 weeks ago. And I wanted to upgrade it into ICS. so I went for a software update. And it updated my GINGERBREAD from 2.3.3 to 2.3.6. Afterwards, I tried updating again. Another popup came and Asked me to download the "ICE CREAM SANDWICH" update. So I did.

After the download was complete, I tried to install it into my device. When it rebooted and entered the menu (after I inserted my SIM password), it suddenly pops up and says (Failed to install update. Try using Kies to update your device on your PC). I connected my device inot my PC and fired up Kies. And it says, "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies" Can somebody help me?

what is the exact model number of your S2 (ie. GT-i9100)? are you using kies or kies lite? i would unplug your phone and uninstall kies from your computer. reinstall from www.samsung.com/kies (leave your phone unplugged) and after the reinstall restart your computer open up kies (not kies lite) and wait for it to load up completely. then plug your phone in (also restart your phone before doing this). kies has issues connecting to devices and completing backups or updates if the device is plugged into the computer before the program is fully open and ready.

Sounds like you did an over the air update. Kies is not required in this case. Does the S2 give you the option to retry the download? If not, there is an alternative method to obtaining the ICS 4.0.4. update, but it is device specific. I'd need to know the exact model number in order to proceed further.

In the meantime, you may want to try hard resetting the S2.

1. Power off the S2
2. Hold the volume up/down keys while pressing and holding the power button
3. Continue holding this combination of buttons until a slight vibration is felt
4. Let go of the power button, but continue holding the volume up/down keys
5. The Android Recovery Utility menu should appear (takes a few seconds)

Use your volume up/down keys to scroll through the menu and use the power button like an enter or return key to make a selection.

6. Scroll down to wipe data/factory reset and use the power button to select
7. Scroll down to confirm the action and wait for the device to perform the reset
8. At the reboot system menu option, press the power button to reboot

See if that makes a difference. If not let me know the device model number.

Try this method. It's for the S2x but the method for flashing firmware is the same. Download the firmware specific to the country of origin as this is an international device. The only S2 I can find that has firmware specific to Canada is the GT-I9100M which Bell and Virgin Mobile sold. Koodo sells a variant of the S2, the SGH-T989D (or Galaxy S2x).

Register with SamMobile, then on the Check Firmware page, enter your device description to locate the correct firmware.
