my galaxy ace GT S5830D can't send SMS messages with packet data on. This is a known issue and some reports say that updating the firmware might help. Kies will not let you do this with the Koodo phone and I don't want some sketchy solution. I am wondering what others have done.

hey John

theres a widget you can downloand
called data toggle widget
any will work most are free
add it to your homescreen and you can turn data of and off with a press of the widget
instead of going all the way to the settings and deeper into the phone

other then that theres no work around until there is a new update avaliable

Thanks, I have that widget already but toggling every time is getting old. What does Koodo say?

Indeed, Even John mentioned it on his original post lol
But since he also said that updating the firmware might help, I wanted to share a support link that shows how to update the firmware using Kies or FOTA (over the air).

What I'm about to tell you may void your warranty so do this at your own risk.

, you may want to look into rooting this phone, and installing a custom ROM. Especially if the phone is already out of warranty. I am a big fan of cyanogenmod and I believe the ace is supported.

I believe you'll find the phone to be faster and easier to deal with after that.

There are guides all over the net and youtube on how to accomplish this and why.

Chad
