Galaxy S7 Stuck On Software Install

I'm in Canada and I started the software update this morning, over 2 hours ago. It downloaded just fine and began install, but now has been stuck on the Galaxy S7 Android screen (bootup screen) for 2 hours. I've done the reset twice (Power + Volume Down) and it does turn off but stays on this bootup screen. It's not in a loop, it's just sitting there. How long does this update take?! Or is it hooped and I need to take it in??

Try booting your device into recovery mode. If it successfully boots into this than chances are there is a firmware issue and you need to reinstall the update.

I did that and am now in the Recovery Mode screen. Do I just do 'Reboot System Now'? Or one of the Apply updates? There's 2 options: From ADS and From SD Card

If you would like to keep all the info on your phone I would suggest making a backup with Samsung Kies and then doing a factory reset.
Otherwise, just choose the wipe data/factory reset option from the recovery window.

How can I do a backup when it won't let me past this boot-up screen?

Correction, youll want to use Smart Switch, not Kies.

Samsung Smart Switch is a program to download on your computer. You load up the program, plug your phone into the computer and you can do the backup and restore via the program.

Smart Switch won't create a backup if it's stuck on the Samsung screen... it'll only work if I can get to the home screen.

Well, I did the Reboot System Now, and I'm still stuck on that damned black screen with the Galaxy S7 powered by Android. :(

You can use Odin in download mode to redo the OS to whichever version you want to get out of the stuck on boot screen issue you're having. It'll of course wipe the device but Samsung would do this anyways if you send it in. But you should still have a valid warranty so you could just send it in to have samsung fix it.

Here is one guide, and you can find many:

Phoned Samsung, and there is no work around on this one... it'll have to be shipped in. Looks like I'm heading to a Koodo store, as I definitely need a loaner phone in the meantime. How disappointing!!!!

It is unfortunate but software can bug out as well. I hope that they get it fixed quickly. Feel free to come back with any other issues you might end up having.
