Galaxy S5 - Firmware Update/Android 5.0

I was told that Android 5.0 is now available for Galaxy S5 in Canada.

I check for update from the device, and I had successfully downloaded the update.

Installation is where it went down south.

When I first tried the update, a problem was encountered and I reported the issue through the device as recommended, with following message.

Failed to update software. Try again suing PC software (Kies) or visit a Samsung service centre

I search up the internet and it turns out that I was supposed to have lots of power ready before I attempt the firmware update.

So i tried again, and same problem. First time I attempted the update, battery was about at 20%, second time was around at 80%.

I fully charge the phone to try again, but this time I can't even download the update, as I am being told that the phone is up to latest version. I even download the kies, but no update is available.

In that case it sounds like your update is done :) Enjoy!

What does your firmware version mention? Mine says 5.0, if yours does too you're all set :)

If you brought along a laptop, download LG PC Suite. If the software is able to detect your device, you might be able to re-initiate the update installation.

Is there a microSD card installed in your phone? If so, there's the possibility that your photos are stored on the SD card. If your laptop or a friends' laptop has a card reader, you should be able to retrieve photos from the SD card.

Another option, if you've allowed Google Photos to store your pics online, click on the link below and sign into your Google account from your laptop or a friends' laptop. It's possible your photos may be stored there.

Mine is 4.4.2 (Which is why I am posting to begin with. I hope I don't sound rude here)

My device used to at least recognize that there was an update available, now all it says is that the latest version have already been installed.

I just contacted Samsung's customer service, and all they tell me is talk to Koodo.

No, you don't sound rude, but we gotta start troubleshooting at the beginning. We get all kinds of questions here ranging from "phone don't work" with no other information than that, to detailed questions like yours and we have no way of knowing the knowledge the topic starter has ;)

Have you tried to reboot your phone yet? (Sorry don't mean to make you mad again, lol, but that does solve a lot of problems)

You may want to see if this works, though I'm not sure if that works for the S5. Find Google Services Framework in your app settings and click the Clear Data button. Then click the Force Stop button.

Check for updates again, does it show this time?

You may have been pushed back in the rolling order due to multiple issues during the update process, you may have to wait for your turn to roll around again.
Have you tried a battery and SIM pull and then try updating again?
If that doesn't work you could also try a factory reset of the device then try searching for update again as the update file may be on your phone but corrupt due to multiple attempts to download and install and a factory reset may wipe that corrupt file and allow to you redownload the update file again.
For future reference :
*Always update your device with a full battery while your device is plugged in.*

I tried searching for google services, but all I could find the app settings was google play services . Under google play services, there was no option to clear data...

I'll second Paul's suggestion for a factory reset. This will clear out any residual files that may be lingering and I would go one further by wiping the cache partition. The latter cannot be performed from the software side and uses a combination of buttons as described in the video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqm0u...

The end result is the same whether you do the factory reset using the button combination or the software method.
