Hey everyone,

I’m Christi from Koodo. Nice to meet you all! We’re working on some interesting initiatives and wanted to gather some feedback from those who are currently in school :) I’ve written some question below, so I’d love to get your thoughts. Your opinions will help us make better decisions, so we appreciate your help!

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself. What level of school of are you in (high school, university/college, post grad)? Are you living at home or on your own?

2) What is most important to you in a rate plan?
- Voice: how many minutes do you need?
- Data: how much data do you need?

3) What’s your budget for the monthly plan?

4) Did you buy a phone with Koodo or did you bring your own phone? Which phone do you have?

5) Lastly, is there any other add-on or service that you wish Koodo offered in a plan?

Thanks and I look forward to chatting with you all,

Christi

1. Graduate (PhD), living on my own.

2. Voice - 500 minutes with unlimited incoming OR 1000 minutes (nationwide). Data - 1 or 2 GB.

3. $40 for 1 GB; $50 for 2 GB.

4. Due to my role as a Mobile Master, my answer here is not really applicable. But, if I wasn't an MM, I'd prefer to bring my own device. However, the 10% discount isn't incentive enough (it's cheaper to get a phone on a tab, then sell it and use it to reduce your monthly cost if you're buying your own phone elsewhere). The real BYOD discount should be 25%.

5. Monthly pricing is more important to students than any add-on. And maybe not just to students.

Thanks for sharing Ivan! If you were to bring your own device, where would you go to get it? Would be great if you could share where BYOD'ers would look to shop.

I usually get my own devices used via Kijiji, and sometimes eBay. I've also purchased from Cells R Us in Mississauga.

Studying the second year of Business Administration at university, I mostly focus on the price of the plan. Since I'm living at home I don't need any data. Minutes of usage could be between 60 to 120 (one or two hours). My current plan has 50 minutes that I prefer to be a bit more.

My budget for the plan is around $20 per month which seems to be reasonable base on the mentioned rate plan.

I had my own iPhone 4 when I started doing business with Koodo.

My goal is to have a low monthly payments and save some money to upgrade my phone every 2-3 years.

Hope I answered most of your questions. :)

Thanks
Navid

1. College graduate with a diploma in Correctional Services and living on my own;

2. Minutes - 500 to 1000 (including incoming calls)
Data - 2 GB (Current plan only supports 1 GB);

3. Monthly budget - $50 for 2 GB; or $40 for the same plan I currently have;

4. Bought the phone with Koodo, current device is a Nexus 4; and

5. Current services I have with Koodo are all I need in a service provider.

Hope that answers your questions! :)

Thank Daniel! Quick question for ya. When do you mostly make your calls? Is it mostly during the day vs. evening and weekend vs. weekday? Appreciate your feedback.

I make most of my calls during the evenings but on average I use about 100-200 minutes a month at most out of the 1000 minute plan. It's nice having incoming calls as a feature (part of a promo plan I still have), so if minutes could be decreased a tiny bit it wouldn't bother me any since I don't use my minutes that much.

1) I am currently living on my own, completing an undergraduate degree.

2) Voice: 50 easily covers it. I don't use data at the moment.

3) $35/month is my limit.

4) I bought a LG Optimus Black from Koodo.

5) Nothing I can think of off the top of my head.

1) I just finished first year of college, and I'll be living on my own for the next 2 years

2) I really only need a few minutes - 50 would be plenty, but Canada-wide is important because I don't go to school anywhere near my home town. 200MB of data would be great for me, as I hardly use it (wifi is plentiful nowadays). It's just great to have for navigation mostly.

3) I'd pay $30/month for 50 minutes and 200MB of data, but nothing more.

4) Ever since my first phone I've bought and sold phone on Kijiji on average every 8 months. I like trying new things.

5) Voicemail is the only other thing that I'd be interested in. My cell is my only phone (never plan on getting a home phone because why would I have 2 phones?), and as a student I keep my phone on silent a lot. If I didn't have voicemail I would have missed 2 interviews and countless calls from my parents.

I'd just like to mention that I'm not currently with Koodo (in my naive inexperience I got a 3 year contract on my first phone which ends this August), and will be looking to ditch my current carrier asap. There aren't many affordable options for 'casual users' (few minutes and low megabytes) right now, so I think this is a great idea. Thanks for taking feedback (Virgin Mobile doesn't)!

Thanks for sharing, Jeff! We'll certainly consider your ideas. Quick question for you on buying phone via kijiji. I'd imagine most of those phones are locked to a carrier. Where do you normally go to unlock your phone, and roughly how much is it?

1) I Just finished my 3rd of University, and I live away from home (with roomates) during the school year.

2)
- Voice: I don't need too much voice... maybe 150?
- Data: I have a super old shared plan so I don't know how much I need yet, but looking at the current plans I'm thinking 300-500mb

3) I'm not willing to pay more the 60$ a month

4) I have an almost 3 year old Blackberry Bold 9780, but my eye is towards the Iphone 5s

5) If anything, maybe some sort of add-on to avoid roaming? (I sometimes am close to the U.S border)

Thanks so much for taking the time to ask :)

I would also like to add that my sister currently has an old 55$ plan that has unlimited incoming calling along with 1GB data. If Koodo offered that plan with that price again, I know myself (and I'm sure many others) will scoop up that plan!

1. In high school living with my parents.
2. I need minutes more than I need a lot of data.
3. About 40- 45 a month is the highest I would go.
4. Bought it from koodo, Samsung galaxy S2x
5. No not that i can think of at the moment but other companies have better plans to go with newer smart phones rather than having to get a 70 dollar monthly plan for it.

1) I am in my second year of university (undergrad) and I live on my own during the school year and at home during the summer.

2) Voice: I currently have 150 anytime (Canada-wide) minutes with unlimited after 7pm and weekends and it is working for me (although 5pm would be better). Canada-wide and unlimited Canada-wide family calling are both important to me.

Data: I currently have 250mb and have to be very conscious of how much I am using. 500mb or more would be awesome.

3) I only pay $30 at the moment and I couldn't see paying more than that to choose a new plan when this one is already working.

4) I bought it from Koodo. I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2x (although I am looking to upgrade).

5) If this includes texting, than definitely unlimited texting. I would also require voicemail, call display (I know that these are pretty standard with Koodo plans but just wanted to include that). Unlimited incoming calls would be awesome too, but not a requirement for me.

Thanks!

1) I'm a grade 8 high school student. Live with my fam.

2) For me, about 50-100 minutes is all i need in a month
As for data, around 200-300 mb will suffice.

3) If i had a budget, it would be $30 or less.

4)Not with koodo but I'd probably get a phone on tab from koodo since I can live with not always having the newest tech and the tab does clear after 2 years.

5) Can't think of anything right now.

Well I JUST finished but I'll give my input regardless.

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself. What level of school of are you in (high school, university/college, post grad)? Are you living at home or on your own?

Just finished a business admin diploma, and have a bachelor degree as well in education.

2) What is most important to you in a rate plan?
- Voice: how many minutes do you need?
- Data: how much data do you need?

Data is extremely important for me (i use 10 mins or less of my 250 each month, and have been pretty consistently over 3 gb every month).

3) What’s your budget for the monthly plan?

I've paid up to 100 for what at the time had a decent amount of data. At this point I feel 60-75 is fair, depending on the size of the data package.

4) Did you buy a phone with Koodo or did you bring your own phone? Which phone do you have?

Like Ivan as a MM this kinda doesn't apply as I am using a provided phone currently, but before I received this model I used my own unlocked iPhone.

5) Lastly, is there any other add-on or service that you wish Koodo offered in a plan?

It would be nice if data was more customizable. While I am happy with what I have no and have very little intention of switching, it would be awesome if reasonably priced data could be added to any plan, letting you get a cheap voice plan with a high amount of data, or even lots of mins with no data.

Another thing I wish that Koodo would offer is tablet plans (not necessarily tablets themselves). Even if it was one plan similar to Telus's flex plan, but preferably a share plan that lets me just share my existing data plan (without having to actually change my plan). I'm not picky though I'd be happy with either :).

Recent BSc and BEH (AD) graduate, working and renting.

I am happy for the steal of a deal I obtained early in the year of 2013 and I think everyone should have an amazing package! I have been a Koodo customer since owning a cell phone (2008) because if you watch their promos, an amazing deal eventually comes up - or it did. I don't know how the current plans compare.

My plan is Canada Wide Double Promo 56.
This includes:
- unlimited anytime minutes
- Canada wide calling
- unlimited text and pictures
- call display, voicemail, etc
- 2 GB of data
--> for a flat rate of 56 a month.

I never go over my data unless I don't have access to wifi, and I use my data a lot. Koodo also notifies you when you approach your limit.

Thanks Koodo!

1. 3rd year university student, live on my own and pay for my plan my self.
2. It's hard for me to choose if voice or data is more important. Generally I use data more, but the Canada wide calling is what brought me to Koodo, so this is definitely the most important feature to me. As long as I have canada wide + some calling feature to reduce the amount of minutes I use up(i.e. free evenings/weekends or free incoming), i'm happy. Data I use more frequently, and although i'm often hooked to wifi, I'd like more data so I can use streaming apps more frequently.
3. 50 dollars.
4. Bought my phone from Koodo, I have a Blackberry Z10.
5. I honestly have so much in my plan right now for only 45 dollars (comes to 50 with taxes and other charges) that it's hard for me to ask for anything else from you guys. The only thing i'd like is more data. I avoid using streaming services like songza when I'd like to most, like when i'm on a bus. Otherwise, the only other suggestions I have are regarding when you actually buy your phone... it would be cool to get discounts off on accessories, like memory cards/cases/earphones/batteries when you first purchase a phone. Maybe even get something for free :)

Thanks Koodo! Currently working on getting my bf to switch to you guys!

I'm planning to attend school in the future, so I'll chime in as well. I'm with Koodo, I have the Nexus 5, I currently am on Tab Large, I pay 65$/month plus the 10/month tab charge as well as taxes. I have 500mb of data allotted to me per month, the unlimited Canada wide calling and anytime minutes, and I also have unlimited texting. I used to have the same plan for less before I switched to tab large, so when I was on tab small, I paid 60$/month plus taxes for what I have now with the exception of the amount of data that was allotted to me. I had 2GB of data with my old plan. Paying 50$/month with 10$/month tab charge is what I'd like to pay on tab large. I don't use data much since I'm always on WiFi so 500mb of data for me is fine. As far as bringing my own device to Koodo, I usually buy the phones I get either through Kijiji, eBay or on Amazon.

Thanks for sharing Erika. One question for you! What were the types of phones you purchased on Kijiji,eBay and or Amazon previously; was it new/used which phone? Curious to understand what you find is a benefit of bringing your own phone vs. purchasing from Koodo.
Photo of Erika Burke

Erika Burke

  • 236 Points 100 badge 2x thumb
Well the benefit to bringing your own phone to the carrier of your choice is that you pay a lot less for the same quality, you have the freedom to go with any carrier if the phone is unlocked and you have a vast variety of unlocked phone to choose from. I bought blackberries of different generations, android phones, and talk & text devices. Now I have the Nexus 5 and can't wait to see what the next generation pure Google phone Google will offer next.

1) I'm in High School, paying founlimited dataown phone plan. And I am currently living at home.
2) I think data is most important to me, I got my plan during one of the duble minutes double data deals so I have 400mb a month, and for me this is enough, but a nice even 500mb would be nice.
3) My budget is about $40 a month.
4) My current phone I brought over from Telus, but I plan on upgrading to a phone from Koodo sometime soon.
5) I wish that Koodo offered an unlimited data add on, when I go to work during the summer I am in a remote part of Northern Alberta and I am usually without internet access so I typically rack up allot of data usage; if it was a monthly add on that would be great because I only need it for three months a year.

Thanks for your feedback, Nicholas. Will certainly take your thoughts into consideration in the spirit of 'high data' option.
I'm in my first year of Business Administration
Most important things to me are price and data.

I would like to pay $40.00 per month, although I do pay more than that now, but you are the cheapest I've found.

I purchased my phone from Koodo, on the tab.

I don't think that there is anything that you could add on to make me happier. I think that plans are pretty good, with nationwide calling, call display and voicemail..

>> I'm at University and I'm curently living with my parents

2) What is most important to you in a rate plan?

- Data: how much data do you need?
>> The most important in a rate plan is data (thought I don't bust my limit) and voice.
>> Voice : I'm usually not much of a voice guy, but I'll use them more and more as time goes by. SO I'd say 500min

Voice: at least 300. preferablly unlimited.

4) Did you buy a phone with Koodo or did you bring your own phone? Which phone do you have?
As a MM, not really applicable to me. But I'm currently using a TELUS unlocked BlackBerry Q10. All my other devices are Koodo devices though.

1) I am currently in high school, graduating in 2 years. I am living at home with my parents. My plans for post-secondary is to study at UBC Sciences.

2) The most important feature in a rate plan for myself is data. Voice minutes, I am not usually very concerned for. Usually the minimum of 150 minutes will work for me. I currently have 200MB of data since I do have a lot of WiFi access but I would like to increase my data bucket to about 300-400MB/month.

3) My budget for a monthly plan would be roughly around $40 (maximum)

4) I originally bought a phone with Koodo but now that I am in the Mobile Masters program, the current phone I am using was generously given as a gift.

5) Maybe data add-ons because some people are really interested in data only (Voice does not concern them greatly).

1. I've currently graduated school. (might take some classes soon)
2. Im good with my minutes (250 min) i also have the 6 GB data plan.
3. Currently right now i pay 73.45 a month, but if i could keep my plan and have the monthly price lowered i would.
4) I originally had an Iphone 4 that i bought used at EB games unlocked it and brought it to koodo.

5) Lastly, is there any other add-on or service that you wish Koodo offered in a plan: Data ANIC, currently i look at the plans and they dont excite me. one thing that should be staple is that the minimum data offered should be 1GB, and that should be a 10$ add on. also change the plans have the tab medium plans where you dont spend $64 for a gig of data. For back to school offer a $45
unlimited minutes, text, CD,VM and 1 GB of data also to be unique dont have overcharges instead cap the data speeds or services and if people want to re use the services they have to pay 10 per gig.

1) I am in college in Busiess

2) I don't need that much minutes because I am always texting!! Max 100 minutes. For the data, I would say around 500mb

3) No more than 35$

1) I'm currently in high school living at home, but next year I’ll be at college living on my own.
2) The most important to me is data. Currently I live in rural Canada and also I travel a lot so finding wifi isn’t always an option, and when it is it’s too slow to use, so I rely on data. I rarely make calls because of the ease of texting or messaging everyone, and when I do it’s usually free due to the unlimited incoming and unlimited 5pm and weekends that I have right now. I would only need maybe 150 minutes. For data right now I have 1GB and I find myself going over that often so maybe 1.5GB to 2GB.
3) Right now I pay $45 a month and it’s perfect. I actually love my plan right now as it is and I know if you brought it back so many people would jump at it. For $45 I get 400 anytime minutes, unlimited incoming, unlimited 5pm and weekends, 1GB data, and 500MB for $5 when I go over, plus the standard call display and voicemail. I’m always bragging to my friends about it.
4) I bought my phone with Koodo when I first signed up, I got a Nexus S. Since then I’ve bought a Galaxy Nexus from kijiji, and currently I have a Nexus 5 which I bought right from Google.
5) There isn’t anything I could think of that I’d want as an add on.

Entering my third year of undergrad and I live on my own

2) What is most important to you in a rate plan?
- Voice: how many minutes do you need?
I usually call in the evening and that's when it's unlimited so i don't usually use the minutes included my plan. I think 50- 100 would suffice for me
- Data: how much data do you need?
I tend to use all my data (400 mb) but I could survive with less. I think 250 mb would be my minimum

3) What’s your budget for the monthly plan?
I currently pay 40$ for 400 mb and 400 minutes. For what I previously mentioned I would pay about 35$

4) Did you buy a phone with Koodo or did you bring your own phone? Which phone do you have?
I brought my phone and it's a nexus 4

5) Lastly, is there any other add-on or service that you wish Koodo offered in a plan?
