I got a Z10 6 days ago, tried to unlock it but it isnt working at the moment. maybe it will be fixed at a later date, but i do not want to wait, so my question is, could i ask for an exchange based on that? I would rather not return it because they would ask me to do the plan ($20 extra). thanks!

Hello Andy,

What do you mean by " I would rather not return it because they would ask me to do the plan ($20 extra)"?

And if it's under the 14 days cap, you can return it to the Koodo store you bought it from at no extra-charge. Or do you want it done online?

no, i got it on a prepaid plan, so returning it and then buying again would cost me another $20.

Oh yeah, I didn't know this. Why would it cost you 20$. I'm sorry I'm not answering the question, but I'm not sure that I know the answer. I'm just getting some information for future persons that might ask the same question

because koodo refuses to sell the Z10 straight out (no contract)

Ok, but you said you bought it on pre-paid. You lost me here. Are you on prepaid or on contract? You bought the Z10 from another company and tried it to get it unlocked and it didnt work?

Usually the return policy that I know off is that you get 14-day return with no question asked.

So you don't like it and you want another phone? I would just try returning it without giving out your SIM card. When you by the other phone, just put in the old SIM card.

i want to exchange for same phone. if i return it, i cannot buy another one without getting a contract. Koodo does not allow buying straight out without a contract for this specific phone

I don't get what you're trying to do. You wqant to return the Z10 cause you can't unlock it but want the same phone? They will not let you exchange for the same phone unless there is something actually wrong with your phone. And saying it won't unlock isn't a good reason because most likely (I can almost gaurantee) that you're just doing it wrong. You'll have to return it and buy a new one.

However, this is at the stores discretion and so you won't know a for sure answer until you go. Good luck

Like I said, its at the stores discretion. Explain your case to them and go from there

I haven't heard of any problems with Koodo Z10s, Where did you hear that?

What do you mean you can't unlock it? Do you mean to use on a different provider or you can't make the screen come on? if you can't make the screen come on you have to swipe from the bottom of the screen upwards to open the shade.

If you bricked your phone by trying to unlock it it will show an error code on the screen and wouldn't be able to return it or exchange it for the same model. Also If you want to exchange it the first thing you have to go through is customer relations so they can trouble shoot the issue with you. In your case exchanging it for another unit after you screwed up entering the unlock code is your issue and you are held liable for that.

i did not brick the phone, i know how to use the Z10 perfectly well. i dont know if you guys are aware, but there are currently issues with the unlocking codes for koodo and telus Z10s, their data base is messed up, thus the code i am getting from unlocking site (reputable ones) are incorrect, thus my phone is still locked to koodo. it still have many tries left, its just i am tired of waiting for them to fix and thus want to exchange for another unit to see if it works.

Just go to the store and ask. Waiting won't do you any good.

I don't see how a new phone will make a difference if the database itself isn't functioning properly.

Koodo will not exchange it for another one for an issue that you have for wanting to unlock it. They will not exchange it whatsoever. You would be taking a new activation or sub from koodo by doing that and allowing someone that wants koodo as a provider not to have a device. Just ask for a refund and go to another company and buy the phone out right. Your sense of entitlement isn't valid.

Again, as I said before, it's at the stores discretion.

Ahmad is correct some places won't take it and some will but either way it MUST be within the 14 day return policy or don't even bother trying.

I'm sorry, but how's he being "entitled"? He's purchasing the phone outright on Koodo's terms. He's not doing anything wrong.

Though I still don't understand why he thinks that a different Z10 will work when the problem clearly isn't with the unit.

Because some other providers some of the Z10's work & some don't

Hey folks, just wanted to give a bit of an update. There is a known issue across all carriers where the Z10 is not unlocking correctly. It is being looked into at this time and we are waiting on a resolution for it :).
