Essential headphone adapter distortion

I got my essential phone a little over a month ago, and the headphone adapter that's included started making some distorted "space noises" (hard to explain) when listening to anything. Built-in speaker works, Bluetooth works, but anything using the usb-c to 3.5mm adapter will make the noises. When I start the audio nothing plays until I unplug the adapter, plug it back in, and start playing it again. I've tried different headphones, speakers, and aux cables as well. Very annoying and nobody is attending my living room dance parties anymore...

Is this a problem with the adapter itself, or the usb port of the phone? It charges fine, everything is updated, and I've blown compressed air into all the ports to remove any debris.

It sounds like the adapter is the problem. The phone charges properly and everything else works fine until you use the adapter. Try browsing the essential support site to either find answers or email their support team.

Hopefully you find a quick fix for this so the dance parties start happening again.

@Brock: It seemed you had some issues with the adapter. Another possible reason is the headphone jack, but you said you have tried many options. So contact essential support and see what they say.

Another test that I would suggest you try is to find another adapter and test it with your phone. Can you borrow from someone?

Google is also selling an USB-C- 3.5mm adapter https://store.google.com/product/usb_c_headphone_adapter It might be a good replacement for the essential adapter (cheaper also). It was priced $20 originally but people condemned the price. Google slashed the price afterward.

That is a good price for that adapter, $14.99 and shipped to your door. The cheapest I found on Amazon.ca was $11.99 but needed prime for free shipping.

Essential should send him a new one for free/discount but they only deal with US addresses and their prices are in US dollars.

@OP Koodo warranty might be able to help in some way. Walk into a store and see what they can do.

Emailed essential and they said it was a problem with the adapter. They were going to send me a replacement, but they only ship to US address as @Mats said. Went into koodo, the guy listened to the problem with some headphones, and he swapped out the adapter for a new one. Problem solved!

@Brock since you are still under the one year manufacturer warranty I would definitely try to see if they will give you a new phone or adapter depending on the issue! Hopefully this works so people can start attending your living room dance parties again.
