If you opt out early, your tab conditions still apply, you'd be on the hook to pay off your tab balance.

So anytime between June 3rd and the time your contract ends, you can cancel without penalty

You're still in a 3 year agreement with Telus. You'll have to pay off your device balance and possibly cancellation fees.

Call Telus customer service to find out what your options are for canceling early. The CRTC law from June 2013 doesn't exactly apply to contracts signed before that. You may be able to upgrade early, and have your device balance waived if you stay with Telus. Canceling is a little different.

Call first though.

The CRTC set June 3, 2015, as the final date for the wireless code to apply to all contracts, no matter when they were entered into. That means the terms of the code will soon apply to three-year agreements that customers signed before Dec. 2, 2013.

Please let us know your result! I'm very curious how they handle it. For future reference!

Will do! I like Telus. No complaints. I have a good plan, 100 minutes, 250MB at 50 a month. A little to pricey for me.

Since the terms are cancelled there wouldn't be anything enforcing the etfs

Yeah I must be tired or just brain dead today I really had to read it like 6 times again to see it. Jason you shouldn't have any issue canceling after June 3rd with no penalty.

I'm pretty embarrassed at my stupidity. My apologies.

Ah no worries Justin, just got in contact with Telus. Just waiting for them to call me. About a possible discounted rate plan

Cancellation fee = device balance, which must become $0 after 24 months (if the Wireless Code applies to you, and it will on June 3). lol @ people saying your cancellation fees are waived, but you have to pay the device balance.
You will be free to leave on June 3, without paying a cent.

Three year contracts before the law had a cancellation fee on top of the device balance for early cancellations. Just for your information.

Was typically $20/month remaining on top of the device balance.

Not really. There was no device balance before 2011. They just charged whatever they want. Usually $20/month, but that had to be minimum $100.
In 2011 TELUS changed that to device balance + $50 admin fee.
Now cancellation fee = device balance. And we're talking about how it is now, nobody really cares about how it was before.

I asked my Koodo Liason about this and here is their response after examining the thread;

Hey Chad, what you said is correct "On June 3rd your terms are up". "All Koodo Tabs that were started before June 30, 2013 will be waived to $0 on June 3, 2015. Any tab that was signed before this date will be forgiven automatically. "
