You will have to pay LD charges if you call to the U.S from Canada. The normal rate is 45 cents/minute, but with the LD saver add-on for $2, you get a special rate of 5 cents/minute.

Now if you mean "coverage" as in roaming while you're in the U.S, then you can get a roaming pass for 30 days that will give you a certain # of minutes or texting while you're down there but I recommend unlocking your current phone and using a local provider there (if possible), buying the Nexus 4 from Koodo (comes unlocked), or just grabbing a prepaid phone down there.

If you don't get an add on each call you make is billed at $1.50 per minute.

If you use data it's charged at a whopping 5$ per mb
