Do I need to go to a Koodo store to activate a new phone AND deactivate my service with another carrier?

I was hoping I could just purchase online then call Koodo customer service and have them cancel with the other provider once the phone arrives.  I would also like to keep my same number.  I don't live very close to a Koodo outlet, but would like to become a customer.

Once you have your new phone in hand, you can port your number from your current carrier in Self-serve on the Koodo website. Once your number is ported, your current carrier will close your account, and send you a final billing.

You'll have to purchase a phone online and choose your plan which would activate your account and have a certain number from Koodo.
Then when the phone arrives you can then log into your self serve account and port your number from your present provider to your account. At that time your account with your current carrier will automatically be cancelled.
