Disable Data and Receive MMS

Thanks to Chad Burr and the fellows in the "Data Use on a Plan With No Data?" thread. I believe they helped solve my issue, so that now my daughter can continue to receive/send pictures and not accumulate data charges due to automatic updates. I was originally sceptical about the "Helpfulness" of the Koodo Community, but so far, they're 3 for 3. Fast and informative replies. Thank you from a new customer.

I have to say it is one of the best forums out there. I had my doubts at first but within a day it was clear a lot of folks here simply love helping out others. Myself included. :-)

And the "fellows", which includes the ladies as well, are super well informed.

Not sure if this is what the topic is about, but I just got this months bill and it included $5 charge for Data usage ( picture message) I don't have a Data plan and have received pics before with no charge. Was wondering why I would be charged. I never use Data on my phone as I have wireless on my IPad, IPod and Laptop. Can anyone help please?

It could have been apps updating in the background when data was enabled for picture messages. What phone do you have Annie? And does it clearly say on your bill that you were charged for picture messaging? If so, you should call CS and have them refund the charge.

Hi Annie. I'm a new Koodo user, and had a similar surprise on my daughters phone. After having discussions with very knowledgeable people in this community, I received some very helpful information.

- Go online and check out your usage on occasion.
- Some Apps update automatically and use data.
- Give a Koodo Rep. a call and explain your situation. You will probably be reimbursed you $5.00.
- If you don't need data, purchase a prepaid card and a talk time booster. (That's what I'm doing.)

You can change a setting in your phone to restrict background data as well as have apps update only when connected to wifi. And don't expect to be credited the $5 every time it happens either.

Yes, restrict "background data"... no way to restrict all data is there?

Im still messing around with settings trying to figure out a way to tell my phone MMS only.

Its really a pain to have to keep data off unless im in a wifi area... is that instance they may as well make MMS possible with wifi and ditch the data for MMS.
