Disable need to lift iPhone to turn off alarm

When an alarm goes off, no amount of hitting the Stop button in various ways seems to turn it off unless I lift the phone.  Is there any way to disable the requirement to lift the phone?

Try Settings > Display and brightness > Raise to Wake.

Also when the alarm goes off you'll want to hold your finger on the notification.  After a moment it will give you the options of snooze and stop

Clarification: Lifting the phone by itself doesn't stop the alarm, and neither does pressing Stop alone.  I have to lift the phone *and* press Stop.

I am using iOS 11.2.6 on the iPhone SE.  Raise to Wake is already disabled.

It might be a bug. if you hit the stop but the alarm didn't stop, then there could be something wrong.

Have you tried to bring this to an Apple store?

I would try to reset all settings in your phone. Settings --> General --> Reset --> Reset All Settings.

So your phone doesn't recognize you hitting the stop button unless you physically pick up the phone?

@Dinh: I haven't brought it to an Apple store due to lack of time.  For the same reason, I'm reluctant to reset to factory settings.  I'll keep the option in mind.

@Allan: Pressing on Stop doesn't do anything unless the phone is moved in some way, either from picking it up and then pressing Stop, or somehow having the phone being nudged laterally while it is laying down.  The nudging happens when attempting to press Stop in various ways (thumb, finger, hard, light, quick, fast).

I'm surprised that I'm the only one experiencing this.  Is everyone else saying that pressing Stop without moving the phone works for them?

@andymhancock: "Reset all settings" is not the "factory reset".
"Reset all settings" will set all the configuration of the system to its default, so your data is safe. The home screen layout, folder, and other settings will be set back to Apple default.

If you check apple forum, you will see some reports of similar cases. As it was an iOS software problem.

It must have been a recent upgrade, maybe even to 11.2.6.  I'll ponder the "Reset all settings".  Thanks.  I'll have to rediscover all the customizations I've done.
