Dead Essential Phone

I have had an Essential Phone from Koodo since March 8th and have had no trouble to date. However, today [of all days what with Essentials announcement!] I had the phone in my shirt pocket [it was turned off,  65% battery, Oreo 8.1] and noticed it felt hot. I took it out and tried to start it normally, then tried power and both volume up and down - nothing. After I got home I plugged it in to charge. Tried power on, power up/down and after a few attempts finally got it to start. So I just did a complete reset and it seems okay.I really like the phone but not if its going to be temperamental.Do you have any idea why this would happen? And would it be something serious?

No idea. Several potential reasons. If it keeps happening could be just heat sink issues. I'd use the warranty on that and especially before the company potentially folds and warranties are rendered null.

How should I go about that Goran? I still have $200 on the Koodo tab. They said its too early to pay it off. Should I use the Essential site and email support?

You can do that, or contact Koodo, who will help with your warranty claim.

You only need to wait 90 days to pay off your tab. You also don't need to pay it off to use the warranty.

Here is more info pertaining to using the warranty.

Thanks Goran. I sent off an email to Essential today describing the situation [I feel bad given the announcement!].
Anyway just want to register a  warranty request. It's strange that this never happened  before  given that its almost 3 months now.

I sent my essential phone in for warranty work through Koodo due to a different charging issue. The place that they had sent it to could not fix the issue and game me a replacement phone. Little did I know that the replacement they sent was a referb unit and had a light bleed issue.

Since essential is going out of business even if you took it to them they will also issue you a referb unit.

I ended up selling my referb unit and got a new phone from Koodo along with Bill credits and markdown on a new phone due to the hassle. BUT I did have to change my plan unfortunately.

Good luck.
