I have currently upgraded me crappy blackberry to a nexus 4 which I love, I have downloaded a few free game apps to play my plan says I get 500mb of data included per month & I don't use it much but I checked my koodo app & it told me I owe an extra 5$ for data usage because I am over my 500 mb so I am just wondering does using apps on my phone even tho they are FREE still use up my data every time I play them ?

Did you download these apps through your data because depending on the game, these downloads can consume a lot of data.

And yes, any app that you download can use up your data. Free apps especially because they load paid ad placements off the Internet in lieu of you paying a fee for the application.

You can always disable data when you don't need it to prevent apps from using your data needlessly. Keep in mind, however, that some apps will not work without a network connection to load their ads.

I'd recommend splurging & getting the paid version since those won't have ads so the games themselves won't be consuming Data unless they have a "Leaderboard" type of system or one that connects to social media Apps like Facebook & Twitter which many games do use.
