iPhones are notorious data hogs. Your best bet is to go into the cellular settings and turn off background data for apps that are hurting you.
I added data when I got new phone in June, I believe! I basically only wanted it to Enroll ppl. in my business, but found most ppl. have computers so I don't need Data! Meanwhile, I'm getting all the crap/posts from FB PLUS a bunch of other  stuff I don't even use! Got a notice a cpl. days ago I was over my limit & chg'd an extra $10! Will probably be more cuz my month-end isn't till Oct. 5th! I want Data taken off ASAP but don't have a clue how to do it! HELP!!!!
Furthermore>>I tried calling Koodo yesterday & a recording informed me that if I got assistance from a phone operator, there was a FURTHER $10 CHARGE!! Said go online for FREE, SO...HERE I AM & NOT GETTING ANY HELP HERE EITHER!!!

Lorna,
It would be better to start a new post with your question, rather than adding to an old one, as you would get an earlier response. This forum is filled by other customers who volunteer their time to offer answers, support and solutions to other customers. Unlike an employee-staffed chat line, responses are not going to be instantaneous.

You can turn off data on your phone to prevent it downloading data, to reduce your overages cost. Let the community know which phone you have, and greater detail can be provided. If you want to make changes to your account, you would need to login to the self-serve portal and make changes there, rather than this discussion community. You can change your plan to one without data, but I suggest also adding the $2 data block to ensure you are not subject to pay-per-use data. If you are unable to do both of these through self serve, then call in, and explain, and you may not be charged a fee.

From this and other conversations, it appears you find the use of smartphones etc. challenging. As such, one of the top tier cellular companies might be a better fit, as they are more hands-on with their customers.

23-something KB in 2 hours is almost nothing. Probably just handshaking to keep Apple messaging apps alive. But it does crank up to 8.6 MB in a month.

I am not a fan of Apple for their phone product, because they will hog your data channel for "their" stuff... just like Blackberry or Google will. They just seem to be a little more voracious.

Bottom line is: there is NO point in buying Apple unless you crave their data features. If you are seriously uncomfortable, consider selling it when you can. Someone with a different mindset will be happy to be "bugged." Otherwise, agree to put up with 10 MB of noise in the background on your plan, if you can afford it.

With android, it's relatively simple to kill data, notifications & updates when you don't want them (at least till the next update!).
