My child managed to turn the wifi off, and managed to rack up $46 in data charges in about 30 minutes. He ignored the texts sent by Koodo warning about usage (bc he's 7 and doesn't read the messages) Any way of getting out of paying the extra charge?

Hello, if the messages were ignored even by a 7 year old chances are they won't be able to reimburse you. Best bet is to watch more carefully when someone is using the phone( not being rude at all). You can always try by messaging Koodo on Facebook but chances are they won't be able to help much.

Ayay, I'm afraid not, Lynn, as the account holder the parent is responsible I'm afraid. Are you on a shock free plan for him?

He was using my phone, but doesn't read the texts (because they aren't for him).

Something isnt right here...Koodo sends warning messages saying your data is X% used. Then they cut off your data. If your kid doesn't know how to read then i assume he wouldnt have been able to type "Y" to unlock the data and keep using it so you shouldnt jave any extra charges. This is assuming you are on a shock free plan.

Sure send the child packing (you wish), pay the charges and do not allow him money or any treats for a few months to teach (him or her) a lesson!  ALSO PUT THE PHONE OUT OF REACH!

How do I know if I'm on a shock-free plan? (honestly not savvy with phones/tech). The messages came at 7:25, 7:37 and 8:03, saying he'd used 90% of the data, then 10$ over, then 25$ over.  He never typed anything in response.

My kid just racked up $65 in overages and I thought I was on a shock free plan.

You could be on a shock-free plan. If your child responded 'Yes' to the text sent to your phone, the data would continue to be available to the device.

he says he isn't getting the texts and not replying, how do I know if those texts are actually getting to him, its his phone on a shared plan with mine.

You could check the phone, check on self serve if the message notifications are turned on or send Koodo a message via facebook and they can check to see if the text was sent.

Koodo has no shared plans. They allow you to assemble a number of plans into a single payment / management account, but each plan is entirely on its own for minutes, texts and data.

You can review all the plans in the Self-serve section of the website. Even if you did not have a shock-free data plan on that line, it should have stopped at $50 in overages.
