Data Only Plans

Koodo needs to offer Data Only / Tablet Plans.

A unique offering would be to include text messaging with the Data Plans.  Many tablets can text, so why not have a plan that allows the consumer to have just what he/she wants.

Does Koodo offer data plans for tablets and internet sticks?

Flexible rate plan Per Month

Up to 100 MB $6
Up to 500 MB $10
Up to 1 GB  $17
Up to 5 GB $32

Unlimited Text included!

This plan would sell!  I could use my iPhone as a hotspot, but I don;t want to.  I like the convenience of having an iPad with it own SIM!

Let's Go Koodo, Let's Go!!

Because two of three members of the Telus family already do offer it. You have choice in the marketplace. If all were the same, there would only be need for one supplier.

However, they are not in competition with those brands. Koodo is in competition with Fido/Virgin, who happen to offer such plans.

@Ivan: this is true, but for whatever reason, Koodo is not game for competing for the small market share of tablet plans with Fido/Virgin. Considering a phone plan with 3 GB data costs over $50 per month (before adding tab/phone subsidy), Telus/Koodo might see competing in that pool to be a loss leader. Koodo has its own loss leaders of getting customers in the door, without resorting to tablet data plans.

It may be better suited to Koodo's prepaid offering, but alas, I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Koodo says "Data plans for tablets are expensive!"

The Telus family clearly does not see the benefit in the Koodo brand offering data only plans.

If you have a talk/text/data plan, you could put the sim card in a tablet/data stick.

Yeah, but then you'd lose your talk/text capability (unless you set up app alternatives but it's not necessarily a simple process) and all-inclusive plans are more expensive than data-only plans.

What will Koodo do if Apple makes the Apple Watch with sim capability, obviously we'd want the same number on the watch as you have on the phone.

That's the problem I'm having right now with my new 1800 dollar tablet.

I want my phone to share the same number as my tablet and both have Koodo SIM cards without switching SIM cards.

I called Koodo to ask if it could be done and she actually put me on hold and came back and told me I cold. When I went into the store with my new iPad they told me I couldn't.

If the Apple watch started accepting sim cards it would most likely be for data only plans.

With your tablet as well you would want a tablet or data only plan.
When you get a tablet plan you arent assigned a phone number as it is a data only plan.

So if I go get a data only sim from freedom mobile will it affect my current phone number settings on my iPad?

Which phone number settings? The iPad does not have dialling ability, nor the ability to receive a phone call using native Apps.
Your contacts and iMessage setting will, remain unchanged.
