For postpaid, you will still have to pass a credit check to cover services since you will have an open account with Koodo. If your boyfriend has good credit, there's a (?) chance (?) that Koodo might let him carry both phones on his account, but you might have difficulty porting the second number over if the original account is not in his name.

For prepaid, there is no credit requirement since you pay for everything up front, a much simpler system.

Make sure your phones are carrier unlocked before you bring them to Koodo for use.

You may be placed on the $200 spending limit program, so that it shouldn't be a problem, especially if you're bringing your own device since Koodo will then only take your monthly bill into consideration. After a while, once you demonstrate good payment history, you'll be taken off the program.

No. Because the account is under his name, he will be Ultimately responsible.

Which so means if you guys ever break up, he holds control over your line and can cancel it whenever he wants

Dennis pointed out some very important issues. I would humbly suggest you try for a Koodo account on your own, so that you have full control over the number. You can have him refer you and earn some credit there.

If you are turned down, then consider having him add the second line, but be very aware that it's his second line, not yours. A possible upside is that calls between numbers on the same account are free, though that's a moot point when unlimited talk is becoming more the norm.

Even if the line as added as an addition to your bf's account, he can still "refer himself"
