Cracked Screen :-(

Dropped my S4 yesterday and the screen is toast but the lcd works great. Leaning towards getting the screen and lcd replaced as I don't think just replacing the screen will be a smart long term fix. Does anyone know of a good reputable repair shop in the GTA where I can have the work done? Would going through Koodo have any advantages? Currently using my motorola so I'm okay to leave the phone in the shop.

Hi Samsvoc,

I'm sorry that happened to you! Going through Koodo would ensure that the repair is done by a reputable company as they would have to ship the phone to Samsung and Samsung would perform the repairs.

With a repair done by Samsung, through Koodo, you MAY get an additional warranty on the repair, however the repair is most likely going to cost quite a bit of money as LCD's are not cheap in phones, also I am purely guessing on the part about the additional warranty.

Good Luck! Hopefully someone here knows a reputable repair shop in the GTA if you do not wish to go through Koodo.

Your best to just buy the glass from eBay and doing it your self if the rest works. You can get the glass for about $20 and find a tutorial on YouTube, I know Max Lee has a tutorial on repairing the glass on YouTube that's easy to follow. Like I said if the display actually works fine then just replace the glass as its $20 and takes less than an hour where buying the display and glass is about $250. As long as you don't pry the glass off and only pull upwards and take your time it's easy. All you need is a couple of guitar picks, a small suction cup (optional) and a heat source such as a hair dryer or heat gun. Look on YouTube & See how easy it actually is.

By the way did you have a case on it when it broke, if so which one?

I spent an hour watching screen replacement on youtube. Looks tricky. Most say, you're better off replacing everything as the LCD might look good now but may have issues down the road. Also, I don't trust eBay as 99% of the screens sold are not OEM and that's all I want. Will pass by a koodo kiosk later today and see what they say.

Chances are that as you dropped your phone that the cracked screen isn't covered under warrenty as it is physical damage. Having said that, you would need to send the phone to Samsung and they charge around 250.00 to replace the screen and LCD. Might be better to find a different option such as a repair shop where you live. Unless you are fine with the cost as it is still cheaper the. Buying another S4 outright. Hopefully you find something to help.

Fixed my screen finally. Went to the Koodo kiosk and they were of no help. Found a reputable repair shop in the Toronto area and got the screen, digitizer and lcd screen replaced for "only" $275 +tax. Works like a charm. Expensive lesson learned indeed. :-(

Glad to hear that it is fixed now. Have you thought about seeing if Otterbox makes a case for your phone? I think it is either the S3 or the S4 that Otterbox makes an Armor case for... They may even have a defender type case for the S4...

I've had 2 smartphone prior without a case and never dropped/damaged them. This time around, I buy a minimalist case from Spigen and I drop the phone face first all the way down to the concrete surface, what luck. I hate cases as they make the phone too ugly, wide, bulky and heavy. Will take my chances with going nude. :-)
