Hi there,
I am interested in switching to Koodo, however I am a little hestitant to do so because I travel for work seasonally (mostly during the summer). Given the coverage from the HDMA network, will my phone be useable when it is not in the coverage area? Is there a monthly add-on that would make it possible to send/receive texts or calls when outside of the service area? Thanks.

Can you be a bit more specific? What area are you talking about? Generally speaking no cell phone can receive service when outside the service area.

Koodo's plans are Canada wide coast to coast calling from anywhere in Canada to anywhere in Canada at one rate. Are you traveling outside of Canada do you mean? If not then everywhere that other companies like Bell & Telus have reception you will on Koodo. The phone you choose also makes a difference in how well your reception is so if your worried about it don't purchase a cheap phone either.

The southern portion of Manitoba. My current provider is MTS and when I travel elsewhere (ex: the US) my phone will pick up the local network and there are additional charges. In this same way, would a koodo phone pick up on other networks when outside of the HSPA cell-coverage area?

yes you would pick up other companies HSPA signals in the US. When you do go to the US you would have to add a couple things to your plan to let it roam in the US.

Right, but if I left the HSPA coverage area in Manitoba (which is very small) would my phone still work?

If you want your phone to work outside the hspa coverage area in manitoba you would need a cdma phone.

when you leave home, your calling area travels with you, with koodos canada wide plans you can be anywhere in canada and no extra fees will incur on your bill, if koodo has no service within canada when you travel your phone is most likely to pick signal from one of our partners, so you will always have signal when you travel, different when you travel outside of canada, roaming charges apply since you left your calling area, I hope this helps ....Roger...
