Use another browser? My phone has two choices loaded, and more are available in the Play store.

Do you recall what you were doing on chrome around that time?

Opera is very good for low data use. Chrome also has a data saver option if you must use chrome. There's also opera max, which lowers overall data use for your phone.

Hey Kojo,

Did you enable "Desktop mode" by any chance? You may enable Chrome's data saver so it can help lowering the volume of data that's being used when browsing.

Hope this helps!

Koodo is terrible.  Chrome has used 12 gigs of data in each of the past 3 months and they basically told me that I have to suck it up. I actually had some supervisor tell me this was normal use.    They refuse to give me any sensible options to deal with this.

The Data use on mine is basically from Chrome only - and not background.

How often do you use chrome? Are you downloading things or watching videos? As well are you seeing 12GB of usage on your phone or via the self serve website? Apple's usage charts dont auto reset.

Use the data saver feature. What do you consider normal usage? The average mobile webpage is probably 2.5+ MB now but even then it would be hard to hit such high usage without streaming. I know that videos play automatically for mobile more and more. Do you browse those sites often? Tayeb also mentioned desktop mode. Did you accidentally enable that? More details would be helpful.

Chrome also runs behind the scenes when you browse in Google Now. See an article you like? Click on it, it runs in a stripped down Chrome. Still uses data unless you're on wifi.

Personally, I like Opera browser. It's pretty smart for data saving (plus the Android built-in data saver, etc.). There may be other browsers out there that have good data saving options, but can certainly vouch for Opera, been using it on Android for over four years.

Koodo cannot dictate which mobile browser you should use. You have options. Don't like what you use? Switch it out :D The data is software-agnostic and gets juiced up on whatever you launch, plus anything that's installed could potentially use data.

I use Chrome daily (and have on every phone I've ever owned), and it uses minimal data. If you are watching videos or downloading files via Chrome, that would show as Chrome usage.
