checking voicemail by landline

I  know one has to start by dialing the mobile # from the landline. But then what?
(If I do that then only my iPhone rings). How can I jump from there to the voicemail?
Pressing * after dialing the mobile # does not seem to do anything.

I think you press ☆ once voice mail has picked up the call.

Once I press *, the voicemail system tells me I have to access my voicemail with my phone (not fun since I have prepaid so minutes count), then hangs up! Any idea why? Using a Galaxy S5.

Koodo recently updated the voicemail system. If you have not already set a new introductory message, you must first set it up through your cellphone. Once that step is complete, you can access from a landline.

Indeed, that was it! I needed to reconfigure and update my password... Thanks!
