I am on a 1000 min. / 1GB a month plan. I'm told that incoming calls and messages from outside Canada will not be charged as long as I'm in Canada. If I get a message from outside the country, although I'm not charged for getting it, will it also be gratis if I answer? Is there a difference if the person who sends the message has a phone number from another country or a Canadian one (if a parent is in Europe, bur using his own cellphone)? Thanks.

Hi Marcel,

Outgoing messages will be free no matter where you send them. Calls however - when you call to another country you'll definitely be charged more!

Are you sure about outgoing messages to another country being free? I understood I could receive them without charge regardless of where they came from, but I'm not sure whether I can send them either in response or originally.

You won't be charged long distance if getting calls from overseas and you're in Canada, but it will use your anytime minutes, in your case 1000 minutes. If you don't answer, it'll go to voice mail, if you check your voice mail with your Koodo phone it uses airtime minutes. To avoid this, listen to your voice mail messages by calling your mailbox from a landline.

Not sure I understand your last question, sending texts is in accordance with your plan, ,receiving texts are free

Thanks for answering.
My last question: If I receive a message from overseas, I know it is free. However, If I respond, am I charged? Does it make any difference if the person I respond to has an overseas phone number or a Canadian phone number?

no charge provided messages are sent/received in Canada.

There are no extra charges for Incoming messages and calls no matter where they originate or what country's number they are using.

If you are out of the country, then you will be charged roaming for answering call and receiving a text (unless you are in the US, then incoming texts are free). It does not matter where the other person is calling/texting from or which phone are are using to call/text

Thanks Dennis. But what if I respond to a message that was sent to me from overseas?

The origin of the text or the number to use to send you the text is irrelevent.
As long as you are in Canada, it is all included and there are no extra charges.

If you are outside of Canada then you will be roaming and extra roaming fees will apply depending on the country you are in

This is why it says that all plans include unlimited "international" texting. You can texte wherever you want as long as you're in Canada!

Thank you everyone for a prompt and complete answer!
By the way, is there a telephone number to reach koodo, please? I thought it was something like 611, but it didn't work...

That's the number - did you try *611?

The *611 has to be from a Koodo phone.

Otherwise you can call 1-866-99-KOODO (1-866-995-6636)

Good thing about the *611 is that it doesn't use your minutes ;)
