Head's up for any customers still on the Classic Tab structure:

As of August 3rd, 2017, you will see two changes to your positive Tab:

(1)  Any positive Tab you've already earned will be converted into a personalized Koodo upgrade offer that can be used toward the purchase of a new phone at any Koodo location– just like how you would use positive Tab!  Log into your Self Serve account to see how much you've earned.

(2)  Your positive Tab will no longer grow(Reminder: positive Tab had the potential to grow to $150 in value before it was capped). But don’t worry, as of August 3rd, if you upgrade your phone online, your offer will be topped up to the full value of $150. This offer is only available when purchasing online at www.koodomobile.com

These offers will not expire,so take advantage of either one when you are ready!

Still have questions? Here some FAQ's that might be helpful:

Q:  Will these changes affect how much I pay on my monthly bill?
A:  These changes will NOT affect your monthly bill. You will continue to pay the same amount per month as you do right now.

Q:  Do I need to buy a new phone now?
A:  Not at all! You do not need to buy a new phone until you are ready. When you are ready, either offer can be used toward the purchase of anew Koodo phone.  Click here to learn more about our phone options.

Q:  What if I buy a new phone between now and August 3?
A:  Your current positive Tab balance will be applied toward the purchase of a new phone and you will not receive the additional offer on August 3rd.

Q:  What is the Tab?
A:  Tab is the easy and affordable way to get a new phone. Click here to learn more about the Tab.

Q:  What happens if I already have the full $150 positive Tab balance?
A:  Your positive Tab will be transitioned into a $150 offer which you can use, anytime, anywhere you’d like. Just how you would have used your positive Tab!

Q:  Where will I see the offer?
A:  As of August 3, these offers will be available when you log into your Self Serve account on the phones page.

we are august first and I still don't see a change in my self service, still my positive classic balance of 70$. I don't see the topping up to 150$ either?

You won't lose your positive Tab until you use it.

If your tab was topped up to $150, you can only use that if you buy a phone on line. Otherwise it's just $75.

I am trying to purchase a new phone.  I have signed in and selected a phone but at checkout there is no tab discount.  there is an additional offer discount. is this the same thing?  if not how do I apply the additional $150 tab discount and why is this not more clearly communicated. thanks

The iPhone 7 comes with a $45 activation credit + your $150 discount.

Looks like the activation credit plus the tab credit have been pooled together.

I guess most subscribers on classic tab have either redeemed their positive tab, have reached the $150 positive tab cap or are nearing it? Since no new subscriber has the potential to get onto a classic tab plan, this is a nice way of phasing it out.

My tab was $67 yesterday, now it's ZERO! I had planned on upgrading my phone and was waiting for the tab to be topped up, now I've lost what I already earned because of seeing this notice and waiting!

You should no longer be able to view your positive tab balance as the value of your positive tab should be converted into a koodo offer of equivalent value.

oh my god this is different than I thought! We can't buy every phone with this new ''offer''

for example I was waiting to to buy the LG K4 2017, and I can't use my 150$ rebate on this phone? I have to buy selected phone with new monthly tab... that wasn't mentionned in this post...!!!!!

So I have to give up my monthly plan for a new one that cost the same price (28$/month)... with less minutes... and a fee per month for the small tab...!! man now I see the scam behind all this :(

Even with the old positive tab deal, by taking a phone with a new tab, it would still require you to switch to an in-market plan. The positive tab balance was like a coupon towards the new tab, which requires a compatible plan.

Since most subscribers on classic tab system had probably maxed out on their positive tab accumulation, this was simply a way for Telus to cut operational costs. Instead of keeping a positive tab accumulation system, tracker, support, etc. given that no one can sign up for classic tab today, it was an easy way to get everyone on classic tab onto the tab credit. One less thing for Telus/Koodo to manage and support.

LG K4 2017 is $120, or tab $5. If you redeem your tab credit towards it, you pay nothing up-front, nothing for the phone over 2 years, but it would increase your rate plan. In fact, you could even take the LG K4 2017 and switch to another carrier afterwards if you find a better deal elsewhere, and still keep the discount on the phone. Heck, you can even decide to skip the LG K4 2017 and wait until a better phone comes out, then use the tab credit, then see if the plans are any better.

Could you take a screenshot? You should be able to get the discount on any phone.

Where or how, can I find out if my plan will change? I want to keep my exact old plan, $25 a month with bonus minutes, etc.

It would have told you otherwise so yes, you should be just fine!

when I try to purchase a new phone, there is no place to apply my $150 credit. How do I apply it?

When you get to the checkout do you see the discount? Did you have a positive tab balance? Do you see any offers when logged into self serve?

Doesn't it apply automatically? Compare the price of the tab without logging into self-serve versus while logged into self-serve.

You are right, if I don't log in I get a price $150 more

Can the $150 Tab be used for something other than a phone upgrade, such as paying upcoming phone bills?

Unfortunately no.

I'm obviously too stupid to own a cell phone because I totally forgot about the SIM card. My new phone needs a nano Sim, I don't suppose that's included?

No. The positive tab accumulation has to do with the classic tab, not the classic plan. When you purchase a new phone you will be moved to the new tab system.

Why can't I use my credit towards the retail price of a phone so I can keep my plan? This was an option before.

I believe be the $150 offer only counts towards phones on the tab.

@Carson Brown: The option should not have changed. My understanding is whatever you could do with the positive tab balance before, you can do with the tab credit now.

This does appear to be a way for Koodo to force you to increase your plan whether you choose to get a new phone or not because in the past you paid the base rate plus got a balance on your tab. Now even if you stick with your old phone you will in essence be paying more because your tab balance will not grow. I am amazed that phone companies can get away with advertising that you get a "free" phone. You end up being responsible for a tab so no matter what it is not "free"
