I gave my son a Casio G'zOne Commando 4G LTE C811 Verizon Android UNLOCKED from USA that he uses in BC, Canada on prepaid Kodoo. Issue is he can send and receive texts, make phone calls, but not receive them, (goes right to voicemail which he can retrieve) he can use internet. Is there some tweaking we can do to make phone fully functional?

Verizon uses CDMA technology for voice communications on 3G networks. Koodo uses the newer (and incompatible) HPSA+ technology. The phone MAY work as expected in LTE serviced areas, but not otherwise, as you and he have experienced.

See Rikkster's comments below more fully explaining the LTE bands!

it a 4g LTE, does that change anything?  It does have the option to do Global, CDMA and GMS.

Not really sure about that. Hopefully someone with more knowledge in that area will jump in.

Is there a Canadian carrier it would be compatible with?

Tell your son to foto

Settings...wireless and networks...mobile networks....network type

Change the phone from automatic to manual

Wait about a full minute and the phone will show you available networks

Choose Telus , Koodo, Bell, or Rogers EXT.

If non of that shows up, the phone isn't compatible with Koodo

Here's a breakdown of the frequencies this phone has. According to the specs, only 3G (UMTS) will work with Koodo.

http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Casi...

CDMA: 800, 1900 MHz - phased out or in the process of being phased out
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz - 2G Koodo does not operate a 2G network
UMTS: 850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz - 3G compatible.
LTE (FDD): Band 13 (700 MHz) - Koodo uses Band 4 for 4G LTE (AWS 1700/2100 MHz)

Calls going straight to voicemail: Tap the phone icon, tap Settings and see if any of the phone numbers are blocked. Also, see if certain contacts are being blocked. Make sure the 'Do not disturb' feature is disabled and that all volume levels are set to maximum.
