Hey Community,

I can't send and receive pictures through txt messaging using my Samsung s3. Reading around I think the reason may be because I do not have a data plan, but my plan of course does include the free picture messaging features. I've tried a few different things on the phone, but nothing has worked yet.

Does anyone know a work around for this so I do not have to turn on my data and get charged to send and receive picture messages? Thanks for any help anyone can lend it will be much much appreciated!

Thanks,
Steve

Your data needs to be enabled for picture messages to work.

Sending pictures wont incur data charges.

However if you have background apps running that require data, then if they use any data, you would be charged accordingly

But try this to disable your data for everything other than picture messaging

I have been charged to send pictures on a Moto G without a data plan.  I had to turn data on and then was charged a pay per use rate for the data used to MMS the picture.

It's not the data for the pic but the background data for other apps.

Try to connect to a strong wifi source. Then turn data on. When this happens app data will run through the wifi but the data pipeline will be open for mms.

Just remember to turn data off before leaving wifi

Hi Dennis is 100% correct. I called Koodo about thisand was told the sending and receiving of pictures incurred no data charges.

Yes I suspect you are right. I installed the NoData APN as outlined in Dennis' link above so now I can turn data on to allow sending and receiving MMS pictures but block all other data. So I expect I won't be charged for data usage.
